i have an image in my d: drive that i want to use as my wallpaper but the option to select it in the background window is greyed out and trying to go into the files and change it to wallpaper from there doesn't do anything. i'm worried this issue might extend to other parts of my system?

also I imagine you have auto-mount disabled. the system may check for that and only allows to use files that are on your root partition. try to put the image in your /home directory.

/home/$user/Pictures/Wallpapers is a good choice

# jolly cypress it's ext4

well, if what stunner says works then all good and mark as solved. you can setup auto-mount of the drive if you wish. and please don't say D: drive, just external drive, people will get confused
