Either A: Your connection to the wider internet is too slow or B: Your connection between router and PC is too slow to support watching without buffering

#

If its loaded but stuttering it could be a decoding issue

#

ideally you want it to be decoded in hardware you can see if this is so by navigating to about:support and looking for HARDWARE_VIDEO_DECODING

Your speed is basically shit

#

keep in mind that there may at any given time be more than one device/person/app vying for bandwidth

#

@still escarp is that the actual speed of your connection or do you have a bad wifi connection?

#

not only is it slow but many actually deliberately throttle A) computers hotspotting to the phone if applicable and B) streaming multimedia

#

and you aren't just limited to sharing meager bandwith with other devices and apps you are limited to sharing with your neighbors

#

the fix is cable/fiber/5G home internet it has little to do with your OS

this has been happening A LOT to me in last few weeks using Firefox, both newish and old versions, and different distros and it didn't used to. I can only presume Youtube coded something bad, some evil ad coding. Works fine on Chromium and Edge on Linux, just the occasional 1/4-second stutter.

nothing wrong with this speed as I'm on 5.3 Mb/s and can watch 1080p (30fps) no issues.

20Mbps speed at one given time when no other application user device is using the net becomes oops buffering when the other users in the household turns on a device or 2

#

hardware video decoding in browsers on Linux was historically non-existent and is still very hit or miss and decoding can cause stuttering if the CPU isn't up to it but stuttering isn't buffering

#

buffering is exclusively caused by insufficient speed

#

I'm betting the lower the resolution the more apt it is to be "flawless"

#

again it is important to distinguish between buffering which is normally denoted by an icon on the screen and pausing whilst it buffers and stuttery playback

#

buffering is exclusively caused by not having enough bandwidth

#

more stuttering can be caused by lack of hardware decoding or enough horsepower

#

notably youtube videos are not all the same resolution or format

#

h264 takes less work for your cpu to decode

#

which is useful if A) you are stuck doing it on your CPU because your browser can't use your GPU or B) if your GPU can't accelerate newer formats but can do h264

#

notably speed is not liable to be different between windows and linux but hardware acceleration is likely to work better on windows and could be a factor

#

Did you notice that youtbe is showing your connection is 1100–2000Kbps

#

other advise remains valid but I am pretty firmly convinced that your entire problem is your relying on a 4G wireless connection

#

There are of course areas were few options available but I would strongly consider seeing if your address can get real wired internet for a better experience

#

a wired connection is one where your house is connected to the wider world with a wire

#

not one in which you have connected your computer to your shitty phones internet via a usb cord

#

yes that indicates that your internet is garbage

#

you mentioned it was 4G

#

which is wireless

#

and not the good kind

#

to experience a profound increase in internet experience consider a cheap cable plan

valid laurel
#

basically two things can always be broken

#

your machine could be having trouble decoding and the internet can be slow

#

fixing one will doubtless make your experience better even if it doesn't fix the other

#

be aware if you ever want to get fancy and watch 4K I don't think that works with that
