#Question about clean install on dual boot system
47 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
in this situation, you would use a live booted linux distro first, and shrink the existing linux ext4 partition by at least 50 to 80 GB using the gparted application's resize command.
leave the resulting space as-is (unallocated)
then fire up the bootable Windows installer medium, and proceed to install onto that space.
I
I already have Windows installed, I'm not looking to set up a dual boot environment
I'm trying to do a clean install of the already existing Windows install, without breaking the exisitng dual boot Linux
so u just want new windows on it, no linux?
no, I want to keep the Linux
same idea as was said, just delete the windows ntfs partition
I have both Windows and Linux, and I want to reinstall Windows
do not delete the EFI system partition though no matter what
unless it's old pc/ legacy boot
yeah, I figured I have to stay away from the EFI, but does that mean all the other partitions are fair game? Except the Ext4 linux one, obivously
yes u can remove ms reserved , ms-recovery
alright, nice
man, these windows partitions are all over the place, what a bloated OS lol
are u logged on rn?
how safe is it to move the EFI partition using gparted?
I'm on Linux atm, I don't want to log in to Windows because then it'll run a chkdisk I don't want it to run
yeah
yup, M2 nvme
how much data used on the linux part?
about half, total capacity is 376 gb, free space is 192 gb
yeah u could move the efi partition to the very left, followed by the linux ext4 one, and the rest just is unallocated space
perfect, that's exactly what I want
u'll need to do it in live mode
that's when it's booted from usb, right?
make a usb of linux ya
a linux usb, not a gparted one?
most come with gparted
aah, right!
I already have the Linux Mint Cinnamon 22 ISO, I guess I can just use that
yep
sweet, thanks!

k so after cleaning and prepping windows iso, make sure to boot that stick as uefi device to install
how do I boot as uefi device? I've always just gone to my BIOS and picked a boot device whenever I want to boot from a usb
should say uefi in front of it, or a "u" if icons
