I was changing the drivers that I had selected to be the older Nvidia driver instead of the most up to date one. after the download process it said it was ready to restart the computer and I selected the restart, but now it only shows a black screen when it starts up.

I found a solution. For future people, you need to go into the recovery mode, click boot normally, then open the terminal and type sudo nano /etc/default/grub and edit the line "GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" " to be GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash nomodeset" (adding nomodeset) this fixes the error and lets you proceed to default loading.

#

"save" in nano editor = ctrl+O

Hey just to make sure I'm in the right place is this the correct terminal

#

see if you can login there

#

actually no

#

i dont think that's right

#

press Escape key or hold shift key about 3 seconds after reboot, after the BIOS splash, and just before Mint gets a chance to even start.

#

then go to advanced

#

press e for edit.

#

and add nomodeset to the startup commands.

No matter what I do regardless of if I do shift or esc it won't change

#

I managed to get to it previously somehow

#

Is this it?

oblique canyon
#

yeah go to Advanced options

#

I think I finally found it

oblique canyon
#

I suppose the 2nd last option . for shell.

#

I hit the normal boot like you mentioned previously and it took me to the log in

oblique canyon
#

which log in?

#

the TTY black screen?

fresh iris
#

The normal one and it even let me log in, I'm back to normal now by the looks of it!

oblique canyon
#

ok now u can change the drivers back

fresh iris
#

Yeah

#

Thanks for the help, hopefully nothing happens again

oblique canyon
#

I didn't do anything

#

well other than let u enter the advanced mode

fresh iris
#

Well you pointed me in the right direction and that helped for sure

oblique canyon
#

kool. mark it solved.

#

after u revert the drivers, and it works on reboot, ofc

If I can get them changed I will make sure to mark this solved
