#[SOLVED] Cant install wine on kde neon
141 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
wine in discover is outdated so amma try the first thing
did u happen to add a wine repo perhaps?
ya
yeah so, it seems that the system is getting confused
dam
it's trying to get wine from the ubuntu repo AND that is saying "use these depenencies" and at the same time, it's trying to get a variant from the hq repo, and that's telling it, well im newer, use "these" dependencies.
impossible situation
so what do i do?
remove the hq repo
how do i do that 💀
then do sudo apt update
one way that I know of is using synaptic pakage manager
install that from Discover
aight
i dont think neon ships with it like Mint does
what do i search for?
nothing yet. go in its settings menu
oh
then repositories
nvm
top
then?
scroll list of repos and uncheck the hq one
dis?
yep
done
next click the big reload button
yea
that's like "apt update"
ignore that next, search
we focus on wine
wine
this?
once marked click the apply button
in the warning box read it well
it will state what precisely it will pull in
now what?
then click apply and wait
there is winehq-stable which is newer, should have i installed this one instead of wine? winehq-stable is version 9 while wine is version 6
did synaptic finish?
yeah
u must close it before doing anything in terminal
amma uninstall wine and install winehq-stable which is newer, is that fine?
then get that thing it says about wine32
try with this one
ur probably gonna run into the repo conflict again if ur reenable it
or ask windows addict
if he can come here n take a look
well hot dam
nope, this buggy mess all happened randomly
how about i just purge anything wine related?
winehq-stable
does it say?
the newer version
it didnt exactly state that but i tried installing winehq-stable and it said this so i think it is winehq-stable
oh so,one sec
sudo apt purge winehq-stable
then, sudo apt clean && sudo apt autoclean && sudo apt autoremove
then retry as u did here.
i already uninstalled the old wine version
and then if needed, install wine32 as it wants
aight
search wine
anything green with wine in the main name, mark for complete removal
(same as purge)
then ask windows addict
nothing is green
wdym windows addict?
the member in this server
i mean conceivably, u could deactivate the ubuntu repos
temporarily
and enable the hq repo
and attempt to install it
anything ubuntu related?
but u'll need to flip that off later , they cant both coexist or else ur gonna have terrible update messages in future
man what in the actual fuck is going on at this point 😭
this is a fresh neon install
idk how it works with mint. could be cuz its using the ubuntu 24 base
thus u got a newer wine version with it maybe, but idk what u previously did
i guess amma stay with old wine until windows addict come
ok
this is dangerous territory when adding foreign repos.
sorry i cant help u further
well about this issue
w means warning. as long as it doesnt say E for error
idk what it's about. way beyond me these signing keys
aight
i guess u could read man apt-key and see what the deprecation section mentions
or apt-key --help
just ignore it.
i installed spotify deb from official site and never bothered with that gpg crap registering
ok, amma just wait for windows addict then
i see. good job on the reading
had to switc the last number from 22.02.0-2ubuntu0.1 to 22.02.0-2ubuntu0.5
so u have latest wine now?
how many times i have to say stop getting wine from apt
just stay to winehq
https://wiki.winehq.org/Ubuntu
neofetch ; cat /etc/os-release
to check and compare your version before fetching from winehq
https://packages.ubuntu.com
after getting winehq wine
run winecfg and it makes the prefix
apt wine is usually just jammy rn so you default at wine v6.0 which is like 3 years old
misc about wine <#💬general message>
thanks for replying. Earlier he was having major problems trying to install wine-hq because its official repo conflicted hard with Jammy's own.
he got it sorted somehow;
because even wine-stable is messed up with mint jammy which has been a persistent thing for a few years
reason i keep saying for staging
well i was getting it from winehq but there is a problem in neon that has to be fixed
