Before I put the timeshift file in the drive it was working but when I put the file on the drive then now it's not working , I searched what could be the possible cause I think it was the drive has windows file? Can my timeshift can be still used in that drive? Because when I tried to move the shift file again it took forever to move

if the drive is 100% NTFS and you use it for Linux a lot, i would recommend to resize it. eg: 40/60 ntfs/ext4
and use the ext4 partition to save the time shift snapshots. It writes way faster,
use gparted to resize partitions, and create new formats
I check the properties to the timeshift folder it has "read only " could this be the cause why I can't copy and paste to other drives?
no
are you just trying to move one snapshot file?
Ahhh or I could shrink the drive then the partition should be ext4 then I move the timeshift file there ?
yes
Yes
Ow okay thanks a lot I will try right now
depends where u were trying to move it, but u can simply do a new snapshot once u make ext4
(if system is running ok)
and do that thing I linked
But I already formatted the drive where I have the previous linux mint 🤦
I tried the fresh install and I was gonna use the timeshift file from the other drive I save but I messed up because it was a Ntfs now the drive is cannot be mount
DO THE THING IN THE LINK!!
So I'm trying now what you said earlier to have 2 partitions 1 for ntfs and the other ext4 hopefully chkdsk can resolve this because when i tried shrinking the volume it had an error
Do everything in order as I wrote it there
I hope this chkdsk didn't delete the timeshift files 🤦
it shouldnt
Where can I find the link?
Yes
Nah I think it takes to long doing chkdsk
Ow timing it's already finish
as long as u didnt do /r then it wont take that long
Ow false alarm
ok what version of mint was the snapshot?
22
The first snapshot i guess was 21.3
But I upgrade to 22 and made a new snapshot
ok so with the new fresh install of 22, as soon as u boot into it, plug in the ntfs drive, then follow steps in link
.
So should i plug out the drive first then after the fresh install i will plug it again?
sure
Will it work even if I don't plug it out?
sure just be extremely careful to install on proper disk
Okay noted, thank you so much
After fresh installation should I update and upgrade first before using the timeshift file?
I tried restoring the timeshift file after a fresh install and then after rebooting this ui shows up not the normal ui login
what version did you fresh install?
I'll accept It was my fault the timeshift was messed up because I didn't include all the files , anyways thanks for the help 😊.
can't jump from 19.3 to 21.3 or 22 and expect it to work
