also check in your keyboard shortcut settings what ctrl-alt-del is really for.

it would be better to set up a shortcut for "logout with no confirmation" (in Mint, this is always Ctrl-Alt-Backspace) and is a very handy way to get out of a badly frozen up process in the desktop.

As for the plasma theme bugs, I can't say for sure, I do remember sometimes having to restart the Settings Manager so it would finally update available themes list, in the past. Install vokoscreen recorder if you want to take short screen videos or even still-frames.
