what the hell is this?
Linux DOOM kernel?
u just DOOM yourself?
casper layer is only on live boots. idk what u doin here.
why are you using casper daemon?
also why doom?
not like you going to slay a linux hell
please elaborate what tf are you trying to do
DOOM was my network name it has nothing to do with kernel.
now elaborate
Im just want my DE Back to life.
maybe it has nothing to do with casper
yeah but wtf with casper
like, why all those commands, what system, idk... give more info and context
Before all this happen,
that's what I saw

what a childish
better ask in linuxmint forum
I mean, you aren't giving enough info to help ya
we can't read your mind or context
so idk your issue
yo fauzan
the more info you share, the more help you will get
wrapping up, the only thing I've seen is DOOM, literally
Can't enter the cinnamon that's it, tried open it terminal startx didn't work
fauzan
when you get to the black blank screen
so this is linux mint cinnamon
do ctrl alt f1 to open terminal
login as super user
next time begin by saying that
run this command to disable the casper check sum service
now what lead to this?
@paper osprey sudo systemctl disable casper-md5check.service
and what casper has to do with booting mint?
casper is just needed for live usb
I disabled, didn't work too
not for an installed system
does the casper error still show up
bruh, casper has nothing to do with loading your desktop
Yes if i check with systemctl
then disable it
probably your display manager failed to load
iirc mint uses lightdm to show the login screen then pass it to cinnamon
journalctl -b -p err should help
why this is showing detail about Live ISO checksum?
sudo apt purge casper?
idk this weird behaviour.
ikr? been for a while asking, they don't give enough info
"my pc broke, help!!1" won't be helpful
i did that, nothing works
were u booting a live USB or something?
no
casper has nothing to do here
I already send a command to check the journal
did u do a proper linux install, or did u just flash it to your hard drive?
bsck then when this happen im just reboot and then solved
what lead to this
i install this mint for 4 months now
well its doing something
when asking for help, give system specs and such, then, what lead to the issue
it shouldn't exist on an installed system
^^ my thoughts exactly
i know, its a known bug in ubuntu though
did u use the installer that came with Mint, or some non-standard way?
yeah i thought it just some shitty casper issues but not.
idk, in all my linux years, never found it there
and I did used ubuntu for some time
wait wopos i miscliekd
standard
its only an issue in ubuntu 21
and I don't think mint has casper when alraedy installed
now, you should check journalctl to see what went wrong
ok, so boot from a fressh power on.. then u should see Linux Mint round logo, yes?
@paper osprey this
if you upgrade to linux mint 21 it might've been added in
Yup, and then black screen logo appears
don't think so. never had it when I upgraded my VM
wait im confused tho fauzan, if you used systemctl to disable and sudo purge to remove casper, how are you even getting the error
send a video of your boot process
its definitely a thing, solution is to just remove or disable it
you don't remove services, you mask those
services are not packages
its a deb package though as well ☠️
just remove it and u should be fine
daemon and services are installed by packages, and you need their names
wait for the video
i hate red
too blurry, and expected a video of your boot process
this fancy terminal prompt isn't supposed to show even.
the name is just casper no?
idk, but you can mask the daemon
not on a clean bootup. Should not show that fancy blue prompt
probably using zsh with plugins
like a video not an image
v.i.d.e.o.
Wait
yup, but there's also a .deb package in apt called casper as well
as an early wild guess, some massive Xorg update messed things up
idk, and for now, idc
casper has nothing to do with this
i think its one of many issues
if you can't load a session, you blame xorg, your display manager or desktop
u did mention zsh, which I have no experience in, but perhaps it's a thing there?
it has nothing to do with booting
do I have to repeat myself?
lol my bad, i just confused it with ZFS
yeh, yeh. was thinking zfs
its only 9 pm
ya neat
is that not normal lol
when u do the video, press escape key as soon as u see the big round Mint logo starting, so we can see the behind-the-scenes procedures
so you have UEFI + disk encryption + user password
what triggers the errors of that shot? it just shows up after login?
was there a recent change to the fstab file?
that error of UUID already being registered to who knows what else is a suspect thing
I would boot Mint with a live usb, run Timeshift from there, give it a proper snapshot to restore from, and let it restore to the computer's system drive
I did not change anything
.
If you mean casper, it gone now, even i didn't delete that, nothing changes have casper or not
Wait
😴
so it works now?
yeah
