Mint correctly outputs to line out, but changing the volume controls my Vive, I can fix this by going into sound settings, output, then selecting line out, but it resets on boot.

lean vault
install pulseaudio volume control.
set proper hardware for sound in the Configuration tab
then in Output tab, pick proper/preferred device, and push in the 'set as fallback' check-button
