#lightdm locking randomly

I use the MATE desktop. I don't know if it is related but recently tried out cinnamon, xfce, ldxe, and ubuntu environments. But ended up going back to MATE. But now at random times my desktop locks to the display manager. I have confirmed that I don't have any screensaver lock setup. And haven't been able to find a setting to get lightdm to lock if I wanted to. So I am at a loss as to what is causing this. Does anyone have any ideas?

are you pressing Ctrl-Alt-L inadvertently? Does it happen just sitting idle, or in middle of playing any multimedia, etc?

no it is when the computer is unattended

it is also not the same lock as I get with Ctrl-Alt-L as that is the screensaver lock and what I am getting is the Display Manager so it looks like I logged out.

everything is as I left it

seems like a "switch user" command may be getting invoked

perhaps but I am the only user with an account on the machine

it seems to not quite be as random as I thought. It is timing out at 5 minutes since last activity

I found it

something installed "light-locker" but didn't install the settings tool along with it. I removed that package and killed the running daemon and problem solved
