use calam-arch for an easier experience. it's hosted on Sourceforge

#

google it, it will lead to a page that has bluearch in the web addree\ss

#

ok and?

#

it'll will boot up to a live xfce desktop

#

but u may choose a different desktop

#

yep. u just need a 2nd usb to install onto the 250GB usb ssd

#

shrugs

#

use Lxqt desktop for Arch

#

in the calam-arch installer, it will be

#

ok, what exactly did you do so far?

#

do you mean you loaded it onto a usb stick, like with Ventoy, and now you're trying to install it to a portable ssd?

#

how though?

#

oh ok.

#

do u want to install it? (this will likely erase whatever is on your portable SSD)

#

what you have to understand is that you need one USB drive as the installer-medium, and SOME OTHER DRIVE as the destination to install it onto.

#

ok

#

first in calamarch, (it's a live mode xfce desktop) connect to ethernet or wifi

#

forget the terminal

#

it should be as easy as locating the network manager icon in the tray area near the system clock

#

hang on

#

u should see this

#

well u got something weird

#

ur supposed to get the calamarch iso , burn it to usb, with either mint stick maker, or ventoy, then boot to that USB, and it will load up like the picture.. from there u can connect to internet graphically, and also hit the installer button, just like in the picture

#

you're probably booting off the wrong thing

#

press startx

#

type it, then enter.

#

type uname -a

#

then paste the result of that here

#

ok. type lsblk and press enter, then share a clear pic of that

#

LSBLK but all in lowercase

#

perhaps the iso is faulty. idk. boot back into Mint

#

well I did not know this

#

ok go on the Windows pc, I'll show u how to check the ISO integrity

#

ok, so, go into Mint terminal, you'll need to verify the calamarch iso

#

what folder is the calamarch iso that you downloaded from the internet?

#

yeah open a terminal in that folder

#

type pwd to make sure ur in it

#

what's the exact name of the iso?

#

ok so type sha256 Calam-Arch-Installer-2024-05 add a .iso to the end of the filename if it has one

#

no

#

sha256 should be built in

#

ok, right click the ISO in the Mint file manager, it should have a option

#

idk what it is

#

so let it calculate the sha256 checksum.. while it does that, go to the website where u got it, and look for the same thing, a checksum file

#

something like sha256 number or sha256sum.txt

#

on the website in the download area where u got it

#

then compare that value to the one in the picture above, and if it matches, then the ISO's not broken

#

if it doesn't match, then it's broken

#

hang on im checking the site for where the verify info is

#

ok I cannot find the checksum file on the sourceforge website or anywhere

#

do you really need Arch?

#

so what do u want?

#

I'd try MX linux

#

the xfce version.

#

yeah

#

there's an "even lighter" version of MX called MX Fluxbox

#

can give it a shot. how much memory and cpu action do u have?

#

like how fast or what type of CPU

#

I'd go with Antix then. it's from the same maker of MX, with many of the same pleasantries built-in, but even lighter cuz it runs ICEWM.. should be golden on an Atom

#

low memory idle too.

#

antix 23?

#

then try it

#

yeah some applications are hard to find for 32 bit these days

#

so u'll def want 64 bit Antix ICE "FULL" version

#

make sure u get the FULL version 64

#

ya it works super fast for youtube vids

#

Etcher it to ur usb stick, then install to the computer with the hard drive. I personally use it, and it works on my 16+ year old rig with a core2

#

then again core2 is better than Atom, but still

#

i've seen the guy on YT "techhut" talk about antix working decent

#

on an atom netbook

#

download the app image for etcher, it's easy.

#

i didnt know balena etcher offers deb version

#

u typed it weird

#

u dont do that with deb files

#

?

#

yeah..

#

so on linux mint, all u do is double-click the deb file. A program called gdebi will take over, and install it for u

#

u just told me u had the deb

#

lol too much confusion. there is no deb package as far as I know. get the appimage

#

it's so easy

#

then dot slash it, and it will run

#

which version?

#

the deb or the appimage?

#

ok open the download folder, and just double click it to install it

#

follow its prompts to etch the antix full iso to a blankable USB stick

#

ok have fun

#

it's point and click, in the antix look and feel manager

#

wallpaper, ICEwm theme, and the look-and-feel theme, that's all point and click

#

try legacy to test it out

#

it will include both, and once installed u can pick either from the boot menu

#

click on the left graph by the clock, that will open the network connection manager

#

if u choose to install it, let it do all stuff with defaults, auto

#

@agile karma @warm zodiac i advice against calam arch, as it includes some unwanted packages + doesn't allow to choose between pulse or pipewire, which will be a major issue on the long run

#

You better be using official arch instead or EndeavourOS

agile karma
#

noted

#

i dont see why not

#

check the Antix Package Installer for it in the Popular Apps section

#

check in system

#

in the main menu

#

u can also click the "App Select" item at the top of the start menu, and type some word or letters, and it finds matches

#

alright

#

keep in mind it probably booted with kernel 6.1 after u installed Antix. if it feels fine, then leave it as is. (uname -r to check in terminal)

#

the release file not being signed u mean?

#

hm i hope that's not an issue

#

ok bye

For that, use lxqt
