Im trying to set up my chromebook to use Linux Mint and all i really need to do is see if i can use the adapter for the chromebox setup.

if you're successfully able to run Mint in the Chromebook, then it should detect and be able to use the internal WiFi adapter. Only if it cannont do that, then try the USB dongle.

#

ps: you don't need any internet connection at all to install an operating system that's full present on a USB stick.

well then my next question is... HOW

this isn't getting me any further...

You usually install Linux from a live medium, which is almost universally a USB pen drive these days. If you put a Linux ISO on there, you have all the data you need for an offline installation (except for netinstall images, but Mint does not offer those). The question is now, are you actually able to boot your Chromebook from a live medium, or do you need to do it in a different way?

i am not sure 100% but i do have 2 OS ready to go. windows 10 and linux mint. im still unsure on how to install these offline. if i can get it to work offline that would be great but im still planning on getting the USB to Ethernet adapter from best buy and i took a bad day to go to best buy. easter sunday.

Save your money, use the chromebook's own internal WiFi transceiver. What you very likely will need to buy is a USB soundcard dongle that gives mic and headphone jacks, cuz u probably wont get sound working with Linux on a chromebook's internal audio.

uh so theres the problem i have...

#

i broke the wifi card... the connectors i mean. and i had my dad try and solder it without much knowledge and uh... we hekked it bad so now thats out of the idea book so the ethernet RJ36 is all i can use if i want wifi it seems.

#

and i hear you people keep telling me that i can do this all offline but never really go into detail on how to do it. my model of chromebook is Chromebook 11 3180 DELL and it does not have Ctrl + L or U to get into that bios thing frmo the OS verification page so first thing in the morning ill be checking in here for help and if there isn't anything i can use im going out to best buy for the adapter.

I literally described to you how an offline install works. But if you want to get an Ethernet adapter, make sure it is a RJ45 wired one, since these usually work fine. Not one of these USB Wi-Fi dongles (Wi-Fi is technically also Ethernet), since these tend to have shit support.

I recommend watching some youtube videos regarding installing linux onto a Chromebook, since that type of computer is rather locked-down. I think there's some kind of developer mode you must enter/enable, which the videos will demonstrate
