#Linux mint crashed while i was writing, how can I recover the lost progress

So basically, I was writing on my laptop running linux mint when it crashed and I didn't save. I only saved when I was 2 lines in but since I get immersed while writing I tend to forget to save. Now I lost a whole paragraph.
What happened was, my battery died while I was writing and since I'm used to windows warning me, I never checked it. It's an old laptop so battery runs out quick.

I had no choice but to plug it in to try and salvage my work but all I got was 2 lines from my last save. The file was an odt being edited on libreoffice. Is there any way I can try to recover my writing?

Try opening the file with Libreoffice. It should detect the partial file and offer to restore. This should bring back some of it, but no guarantess that it will be all.

I tried that but all it could back up was the 2 lines

I heard there's software that can recover stuff but all the results I found are on windows

You can only recover something that is there. When you write something in any program, it is first committed to RAM. Then the application will occasionally temp-save its unsaved content in a temp file. So restoring works by just getting the last save from the temp file, because anything in RAM is lost in your scenario. And it looks like you are out of luck, and these two lines were all there was.

I think best thing I can do is try to change my set up of mint so it warns me when battery is low so it doesn't happen again

I am not sure it does warnings like KDE, but you can tell it to emergency-suspend, so once it has power back, the progress in RAM should still be there. And get used to saving frequently. I think there is an option in Libreoffice to tell it to autosave often. It is also a good idea to save any new work to a proper file right at the beginning, so it has a real save target, not just the temp.
