#Laptop screen will not turn on after closing and opening lid

I have tried every possible combination of power management settings. Currently, I have Mint set up to never turn off the screen when inactive, never suspend, and to lock the screen when the lid is closed. Nonetheless, my laptop will still show that it is powered on when I reopen the lid, yet not turn the screen back on; because of this, I have to reboot. This behavior is also repeated if I set it to suspend. with I don't know how to be more specific about this. Could someone please help me figure out what's going on?

If this has anything to do with it, I dual boot Windows 10 and Linux Mint on a Dell Latitude 5490. (Which reminds me of a similar problem that I have with GRUB, but I'll keep it one problem per post :p)

@tribal jetty try this possible fix. search 'screensaver' in the Mint menu.. and DISABLE screenlocking in it.

#

after that, disable all the other stuff too (or check that it is off) ie - suspend, hibernate, etc.

#
  • install xscreensaver
#

this program comes with its own ability to "lock" the screen by either displaying a graphical cute screensaver, or simply blank (black) it. and can be made to have a password resume, etc.

#

with a typical install, it should add xscreensaver-daemon to the Startup Applications (findable from System Settings) the daemon waits the allotted time set in xscreensaver preferences before it "locks/blanks/screensaves"

#
  • about the laptop lid function, put it to something else.

there’s no option to disable screensaver entirely, would this work? (sorry for the screen picture i don’t feel like connecting to my work internet)

with lock off, u could probably 'suspend' the computer to save power (even as a lid-action) and it should resume just fine to the desktop

#
  • test the suspend function after adjusting as written above. it should sleep and wake fine.
#

a) either set the suspend time in power management down to 1 minute of idle (just to test this)
b) click the logout/shutdown icon from the start menu, and choose 'suspend'
