#Can't install Linux Mint

Hi! I'm quite new to Linux.

I'm trying to dual boot Linux Mint (cinnamon) and Win 11.

Secure boot & fast boot are off.

The issue I have here is when I try to install ( I select start from the grub menu ) the Linux Mint logo launches, after a few seconds a black screen appears with a cursor/line in the top left and my PC restarts.

After pressing F10 when the Linux Mint logo is on I can see

stdin:invalid argument
touch: var/crash/(something) file directory not found

And after it tries to start Light Display Manager the black screen appears and it restarts.

When launching it in compability mode, it manages to start Light Display Manager but after starting couple of things it still goes to a black screen and restarts.

Sometimes I've gotten hardware errors:
CPU 4: Machine 0: Bank 5:

Cpu 7: Machine: 0 Bank: 5

I've tried:

nomodeset, nouveau.accel=1, single

different usbs / different usb ports.

Burning( or whatever it is called ) with etcher, rufus, ventoy

Linux Mint 21.2 and 21.3

My specs are:

B550M d3sh motherboard

Ryzen 5 5600x

RTX 3060.

250GB SSD ( Windows 11 is on here) and a 1TB HDD (trying to install Linux on here)

Please ask if you need more info / pictures.

If you want to dual boot, I think it's not possible on 2 different drives. The Mint install has gotta be on the windows drive,

#

why dont you update your bios for example, it could be a problem

hmm , have you tried the edge iso?

#

i am running stock cinnamon on my laptop with almost the same specs , seems weird why would you have a problem

#

how is your bios configured?

hardy canyon
#

I tried edge before updating the BIOS and only burning it with rufus. You suggest I give it a try again?

I also forgot to mention that I freshly reinstalled windows if it has something to do with it.

or lmde for example

#

it could run better for you

hardy canyon
#

Isn't lmde for more "advanced" (people that know what they're doing) linux users? After all this is my first time trying linux so that is why I chose mint and cinnamon.

icy solstice
#

hmmm , yes it is , although mint is completely beginner friendly

#

and let me tell you this, mint is a fork of Ubuntu , which is a fork of Debian

icy solstice
#

as a matter of fact, you will learn linux anyway, right?

there is also linux-support below

#

i am new to linux as well, give it a try!

I'll try lmde & other distros if I can't fix mint.

glad that i helped!

If you are using Rufus to create the install medium, you need to make sure it is version 4.4, earlier versions broke Mint ISOs. Balena or Ventoy are recommended.
If you cannot even boot the live environment, you have a broken install medium.

icy solstice
#

the medium is not broken , nor the burner

#

its sometimes just a faulty driver or miscommunication

frosty herald
#

I do not mean physically broken, just write-fail.

icy solstice
#

i meant exactly that

frosty herald
#

So we agree. Now let's hope OP finds a solution.

icy solstice
#

i hope he does , i had a problem like his on a garbage spec prestigio

Wait, does it actually boot the live environment or not?

Are you creating the install medium as MBR or GPT?

hardy canyon
#

When I burnt it as a DD image i created it as GPT, when I burnt it as an ISO image I used both MBr and GPT.

You have a modern system, there is zero reason to use MBR. Go make a GPT medium, make sure to disable CSM, Secure Boot and Fast Boot in UEFI, and try starting it. If that fails, your flash medium is physically broken, or your computer has rabies.
