I would like to increase the size of where my linux is installed so I have a partition with no format. How do I merge it as it is not very clear.

You cannot move a carpet while standing on it. This can only be done from outside the installation, i.e. when you are booted into a live ISO or anoter installed system. Then you would usually do this with gparted, but be warned that this can destroy the partition. It is generally not recommended to do.

What you could do is create another partition in the free space and mount it somewhere useful.

that would be fine if i didnt want to download programs from software manager or something as I have been told before, that only downloads in my system partition

#

because i have a mounted hard drive for files and games

#

its a little annoying how to download software i should probably get a larger ssd

#

unless there is a solution im unaware of

Well, it should be doable, but a bit risky. Back up your stuff, boot into a live ISO and go wild.

yes. you should be able to 'resize' aka 'stretch' the partition shown in redd all the way to the left overtop the 10GB space . note that this will move data bit by bit to realign the contents

He means to tell you it will take bloody ages, so be patient.

shouldn't take that long on an SSD, especially if that 44GB part is only half full. my guess is 4 minutes
