#What manufacturers play nice with Linux?

I recently dealt with an issue with my firmware. Many forum threads with similar error messages blamed them on the manufacturer not following industry standards (Dell in my case). I've also seen references here and there to HP going away from standards and creating something that only works with Windows, with the end result being issues when Linux is installed.

So, that prompts the question: what computer manufacterers, especially with respect to their laptops, are known for practices that play nice with Linux? I'm aware that System76 is a manufacturer that develops & preinstalls Pop!OS, but what other manufacturers, or specific products, are out there?

HP is the worst offender, with Acer, Asus and Dell usually not much better. It does depend on what product you are looking at - business machines tend to be way less bad than gaming ones, and entry-level ones are hit or miss. The standing recommendation is still Lenovo Thinkpads (which are business machines), or a Linux-first brand like Tuxedo or System76. Framework has also pinky-promised to treat Linux as a first-class citizen, but it is still early days for them.
In short, the most affordable way to get a good Linux laptop is buying a refurbished Thinkpad.
