Is that your 2GB Atom system?
Yes sry for the late response
What did you create the install medium with, and can you say if it was written in MBR or GPT mode?
I dont remember if it was gpt or mbr
I created it with rufus
It seemed simple with rufus
Some older Atoms were notorious for only working in 32bit GPT mode, which is pretty much a unicorn. But this particular one looks like it is 64bit. Do make sure to use Rufus 4.4, no older version. These had issues with Mint images.
If you want to make sure, connect the medium and check if it has an EFI partition. If so, it should be GPT.
How do i do that
Im at here rn
Start the Disks application.
Aight
By the way: https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/80274/intel-atom-processor-z3735f-2m-cache-up-to-1-83-ghz.html
Instruction Set: 64-bit
How tf is it 64 bit i run it at 32 bit
You can run a 32bit OS on a 64bit CPU. Since this thing only has 2GB of RAM and 32bit applications are smaller, this might even be a good idea. But we need to make sure you are running in a mode that is supported by your BIOS/UEFI.
What does Disks say about your install medium?
Sure, take your time.
I am off now and will not have much time during the week. Try to determine if your BIOS does UEFI boot or CSM, and prepare your install medium accordingly. My guess is that you are trying to EFI-boot an MBR, or the other way around. Also pay special attention if your system requires 32bit-EFI-boot. I hope it does not, since that is fiendishly hard to achieve. I think last time I encountered this (which was on an Atom system somewhat similar to yours), only Fedora managed to boot it correctly.
Hey sry about the late response, how do i check if its csm or uefi or bios?
Im new to this linux stuff
Look under Boot Options. If you are unsure, share pictures.
Okay wait a min im opening my laptop
How do i check boot options?
You enter BIOS and look for a section called "Boot" or similar.
The black and and white thing when you first start up the laptop?
Yes. It depends on the model, but most machines open the BIOS/UEFI menu when you press Del, F2 or something like that at boot.
Very good. That is the main page, there should be some more tabs. Look for the one that controls startup, usually Boot.
That looks like not much choice. What do you get under Security?
Secure Boot menu - get in there and disable anything you can.
I recommend removing the password, by the way. Entering a password for BIOS is a recipe for bricking your computer, because everybody forgets theirs. With Secure Boot disabled, does it still show no boot options?
It doesnt letme
Do you actually have that BIOS password?
I kept this password becuase i saw a yt vid saying it helps with booting linux
Wdym
Keep in mind that 80% of Youtube content is bullshit. I was asking if you have actual write access to your BIOS. If so, check unter Advanced and see what is blocking the boot options.
I think i found the problem in one of the forums https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?p=2379506#p2379506
I booted my usb with rufus and without dd mode
The medium should be created with Ventoy or Balena, or Rufus with version 4.4 (earlier ones have issues with Mint images).
Yeah i didnt know that
Now iam stuck with this slow mint usb
You can re-flash it on another computer.
If you can boot into a live environment, you can probably create a second flash drive. But don't you have friends or family you can ask for help?
Nah i live in a poor household
I tried but for some reason linux mint just stop functioning after the iso starts dowbload on firefox
Yes, because you probably have no space to download it to.
I deleted windows and sht im pretty sure i have space
When linux was installing i typed on erase all data and install linux
In the live environment, you do not. It thinks it runs from a DVD.
The core problem is, while you apparently can install, you cannot create a working boot sector. With the tools you have on hand, this is not fiaxable.
It should be trivial with access to another computer, to rewrite the install medium.
So iam stuck with a non working laptop?
Until you create a fully working boot medium, yes.
Well shit
The laptop is not broken, you just made some understandable rookie mistakes that nobody warned you about.
If you can get another install medium, Windows or Linux, you should be able to install.
Alright bro thanks for your help il just make use of the live usb til i can find another laptop
Good luck with that. We will be here if you need more help.
