using Linux Mint with Cinnamon desktop, also I don't mean web apps, just links

right click the desktop, create launcher from URL. edit it to show the URL of website, give it a custom icon if you choose. You should be able to copy that to the pinned icons taskbar.. if not, add the applet called "panel launchers" and add it to that

#

dragging should work.

both the panel and the panel launchers applet don't do anything when I drag the launcher onto it

hm well I've never tried to do it myself.. I thought it would work

if there is a way to do it it's not user friendly

like say u use Firefox.. u could make a program launcher ( a custom one on the desktop to be "firefox www.whatever.net"

#

and it'll open direct to that

yes

browse the online applets, maybe there's something for it

u can't pin stuff to the panel

apart from right clicking a thing that's already there

#

but a website can't show up down there

@raven pawn if you right click the panel you should be able to add a launcher there. Create the launcher through the dialogue (you can add it to the menu as well) and it will be there.

I think pinning only works for applications, so you will need to create the launcher.

I'm at my computer now. Let me figure this out and put together some instructions.

#

OK. It is a little more involved than I recalled. I have an auto hiding panel on the left side of my screen that I use for launchers. Since it already has the 'Panel launchers' applet installed on it I just have to right click and select '+Add' to create new launchers.

I assume that you just want the launchers on the bottom panel, so you will have to add 'Panel launchers' applet to the bottom panel. Once it is there and you have moved it next to the preinstalled one, you can add and remove the launchers that you want.

#

Once you have the new 'Panel launchers' applet on your panel, and positioned where you want it, right click it and click '+Add' create your launcher and click 'yes' to add it to the menu. That way you can unpin it from the panel and still be able to add it back later if you want from the menu.

Add your custom launcher(s) before removing the ones that come with the applet. For your purposes, you may just want to edit the Firefox launcher to do what you are looking for. I assume you probably have multiple sites you want launchers for, so you may want to figure out what icon you want for each and make sure to type in the comment field the name of the site show it will show on mouse over.

thanks I'll try that soon

It's easy once you have done it. That web page does a nice job of showing the steps. You can stop following it after you get the applet where you want it and then just use the '+Add' and 'x Remove' using the right click menu.

thanks for the help

#

was pretty easy once I knew the panel launchers applet has that right click option

#

weird that the standard panel applet doesn't have it

Glad you got it done. I'm not sure why the default one is different, but I am sure there is a reason.
