I kept linux mint on the lock screen for about an hour hour to go do something, when i came back the screen was black and the only solution was restarting. This has happened many times.

Probably a kernel or driver issue, it fixed itself at some point when I had a similar issue

Also if this isn't a fresh install and u can't reset/dont have a separate home

You can install a new kernel

Or disable automatic screen off in settings
