I'm still fairly new to using Mint again, it's been 12 years since I tried on a laptop.

That computer should have no performance issues. It is possible that you are experiencing VSync issues, so perhaps check settings for that. Also, kernel 5.15 is a bit old for that hardware. So you may want to consider upgrading to 6.5 via Update Manager > View > Linux Kernels. Do yourself a favour and make a Timeshift snapshot before you do that.

Ok, am testing it now, updated the kernels and created the timeshift, should I have the mesa drivers updated if I still have issues?

It is usually enough to just switch to a newer kernel, which will bring the more recent driver. Mesa is a dependency that you should not meddle with unless you have specific reason to.
