#Fractional scaling does not work properly on multiple displays? / FAQ

Currently my laptops screen is way too zoomed in at 100%, and I want it to be 125%. Yet the only option is to enable fractional scaling controls, and this will make my laptop screen fit nicely, while making my second monitor WAAAAY too zoomed in (can only see 1/4 of the screen).

It doesn't seem that fractional scaling allows for independent scaling, as it seems they will somehow get zoomed in at same level. How can I fix this? Its almost impossible to read from my laptop, while my monitor is fine.

And no, Linux Mint's Wayland session is not ready.

Worth a try. Ubuntu is pretty far along with Wayland, or done already, I'm not sure. Any modern distro with Wayland support might do it. Or you wait until Mint gets there, too.

# cloud abyss Do you know if any other Linux distro can do this? Perhaps Ubuntu?

Anything that runs Wayland can (technically? I haven't used or been able to try that myself yet)

Generally, you'll have a fine experience with anything that runs KDE Plasma or GNOME as it's desktop, as those support Wayland quite well by now.

Fedora ships both of those, GNOME in Fedora Workstation and KDE Plasma in the Fedora Plasma Spin.

Have the same problem, i actually did not find this thread due to different search phrases.

Is there any solution or ETA or beta to try? I really would not want to change my distro because of this...

Technically, Mint 21.3 Cinnamon does have Wayland support. It is just experimental and incomplete. You can select the Wayland session at login by clicking on the Cinnamon logo. After leaving it, you should reboot before logging in regularly again to avoid weirdness.
ETA for Mint 22 is probably sometime in July, as per usual after the new Ubuntu LTS came out in April. But Mint 22 will not have complete Wayland support, it may just mature a little. Full Wayland support is tentatively announced to come to Mint "by 2026". So if you need that support, see if the experimental session is stable enough for you, or consider switching distros.
