This process takes about 2-3 hours and it doesn’t go from there

waxen hemlock
#

it's stuck.

#

I would suggest hit the reboot button on your computer.. and boot to the live-usb, and reformat the partition with gparted to ext4, apply, exit, then do the OS install again.

#

@waxen hemlock

waxen hemlock
#

ok one sec

#

ok minimize that application.

#

search 'gparted' in the menu

#

and tell me roughly the age of this computer from when it was made roughly

midnight salmon
#

It already loaded but only the bootable USB appears

waxen hemlock
#

hm.

#

that doesnt look good

#

hit ignore for now

midnight salmon
#

My hard drive appears in the Bios but it doesn’t recognize it when it’s installed

waxen hemlock
#

go to the top right menu.. drop down , and pick sda

#

sda should be the hard drive, and show a full pict with nothing clipped plz

midnight salmon
#

Nothing else appears, just the USB

#

I don’t see the option of sda

waxen hemlock
#

can u retake that picture.. and click the top right box (underneath the close button), and show the full frame

midnight salmon
#

my lap is model aspire a315-53

#

Isn’t the problem due to drivers or anything?

waxen hemlock
#

no the hard drive isn't being recognized and that's bad

#

that's pretty serious. maybe it died

#

go back to Disks app

#

close disk app, close gparted

#

then open gparted again.. maybe this time it will show since the other program's closed

midnight salmon
#

It’s still the same

waxen hemlock
# midnight salmon

also your USB is formatted wrong. it should be Fat32 . what program made that?

midnight salmon
#

Rufus

#

My disk is nfts format, it doesn’t matter if I use fat32?

#

Shall I send you a picture of the hard drive? Physicist

waxen hemlock
#

the installer disk must be a DVD or a USB formatted with fat32, or exFat.. Rufus should show the option

#

but anyway that's besides the point. ur hard drives in a bad state right now ..

#

Close gparted, and open the Disks app, maybe it can fix

#

in Disks, select the hard drive, then go to the 3-dots menu at the top right by the titlebar, and from that menu see if u can access the SMART DATA

midnight salmon
#

I’m going to try booting again

midnight salmon
#

It didn’t work with fat32, unlook the laptop and disconnect the sata from the hard drive and I connected it again, and it still recognizes it but it gives an error when installing @waxen hemlock

waxen hemlock
#

see if Disks app can read the smart data

midnight salmon
#

It doesn’t come out

#

Can I format the hard drive from the terminal?

waxen hemlock
#

if gparted can't read it, then no

#

seeing as the drive got stuck for 3 or 4 hours on an install, there's a problem right there. A typical install of Linux on a hard drive takes about 40 minutes max.

midnight salmon
#

I think it would be worse if I didn’t recognize it.. right?

#

They would be signs that it’s damaged

waxen hemlock
# midnight salmon

your model wont display.. partioning table type wont show.. all three partitions are saying unknown.. and the Smart data is inaccessible.

midnight salmon
#

bad

#

rip disk?

waxen hemlock
#

ya that's why it hung for hours before

#

it'd prob be cheaper to replace than take to shop

midnight salmon
#

Do you recommend moving to an ssd?

#

intel i3 7th gen and 4gb de ram

waxen hemlock
#

hell yes

midnight salmon
#

Thank you, friend, I’ll see what I can do

waxen hemlock
#

RAM is fine for general apps and browsing n media.. just maybe not hardcore heavy media

#

alright. chck back later

#

should see to take that drive to store, n have them sell u a same formfactor of SSD (preferably one with DRAM cache on it)

midnight salmon
#

So preferably is it better to have hdd and ssd at the same time? With the specifications of my laptop

waxen hemlock
#

if ur computer has space, u may add a hard drive in it too

midnight salmon
#

OK, I understand, thank you friend for responding and advising me
