#Linux mint crashing and going back to log in

How much RAM?
@flint palm 128 gb ram
I have no idea why with that much RAM
Because I'm trying to run virtual machines as well as GPU passthrough
Giving the vm's too much RAM?
I gave it 64 gigs for my windows VM but I had the same problem with opening thunar file manager
Drop it down to 32GB?
Tried that didn't work
Post result from terminal for> inxi -Fxxxz

copy/paste the command, I think those results are for inxi -fxxz
I copied and pasted the command said the same thing
inxi -Fxxxz
It actually sees all your RAM, might want to write down the time when it happens and then find that time in /var/log/syslog or possibly in a Xorg log
How do I do that
Actually see if there is a log program in the menu
@flint palm I have a logs program
Look through it for major errors, I don't know if it highlights
I can't find anything in the logs application that would root to my issue that I'm having
Open up /var/log in the file manager and look through syslog and maybe syslog1
Must not have crashed since that log started
I swear it crashed a few minutes ago when I tried to minimize the ram on my win11 vm
It might be in an Xorg log then
Any chance you are using ctrl + alt + esc?
What do you mean by that?
That key combo might cause xfce to restart
ok it think thats the issue as well since i tried it but how do i disable it
Find the keyboard shortcuts, might be a program in program menu where you can replace with nothing
I only have a application called keyboard but it has a section called application shortcuts
Is there a system tab
no just behavior and layout
@flint palm also there's no program section in the menu
Actually ctrl + alt + backspace will log you out
Oh ok should I delete that in the keyboard application I mentioned earlier
Or is there a way for me to add the program section in Linux mint to get a better look at the keyboard shortcuts
Cinnamon DE has a extensive shortcut list, it seems that xfce doesn't have many by default
Ok so what should I do?
Up to you, still not sure why you get logged out?
Is there a way to add a programs section for the version of Linux mint I have
Also when I leave my system running without touching it it goes back to the log in screen but I think that's normal and nothing to do with the actual problem
Not sure as I haven't used xfce
Oh ok guess I'm out of ideas on what the problem is
I would have either dmesg -w or tail -f /var/log/syslog running in terminal to see if something shows before the log out
Ok should I do that?
I would, it doesn't hurt anything
Ok

It seems that it doesn't read before the crash I really don't know what to do at this point
Check some logs for Jan 7 21:36:11
How?
Get in /var/log and check the syslog file for that time stamp
What is going on at 21:35 - 21:36
dont know
At 21:36 it is already stopping stuff
Do you think thats the problem because I tried to open my win11 vm but it crashed again to see if it would change anything in syslog
I wonder if you should install an older 5.15 kernel and boot into it and see if it still happens
Ok I could try that what is the command to do that
Use the Update Manager, View menu, linux kernels to install an older kernel, then get the Grub menu at boot, advanced options, choose the older kernel. Might need to press and hold ESC at boot to get Grub menu
It says I have 5.15.0-91 active should I ingnore that and install a older version
go back into -80 something
I installed 5.15.0-82 but nothing changed I really don't know what to do at this point
what result from terminal for> uname -r
5.15.0-91-generic
You have to reboot and use grub advanced options to switch the kernel
oh ok sorry how do i use grub advanced options
reboot, hold esc and see if grub menu appears
Advanced Options, press enter, then scroll down to the first entry for a kernel that isn't 5.15.0-91
press enter to boot that kernel
Tried that now again to no avail
I am not sure what is going on, ask a question on forums.linuxmint.com
@flint palm What forum should I put the website
Put it in beginner questions
Ok thanks because I tried to put it in virtual machine and software forums but no one saw them
What username on the forums?
You mean my username then it's TTVARTISM0
