You've reformatted the drive as ext4, it's mounted so you should be able to use it. As for recovering old data, please watch this https://youtu.be/hmpY8TlBck4?si=n_bShpwN10K9WPd6

Here's how to recover partitions and files in Linux, provided not too much of the data has been overwritten.

Since you have info on correct partition in the log file, you can stop the deep search as soon as the required partition is displayed in the list

What does lsblk --fs say in the terminal?

celest trench
#

Yes, you seem to have 3 partitions on sdb

#

And you're having troubles with sdb6?

#

Have you tried to mount it manually?

#

You can try from here too, select partition 6 and make a screenshot

#

and press the play (triangle button)

#

Alright, click close, then go to terminal and type sudo ntfsfix /dev/sdb6

#

Alright, try mounting it again

#

Was your F drive 730 gb?

#

That's partition 1, what happens if you try to mount it?

#

It doesn't seem to have a filesystem. Was that the one you deleted and then recovered?

#

Can you select it, and take a screenshot?

#

I'm guessing your username is ryzen ?

#

Alright lets try this, create a folder in your home, let's say test, then go to the terminal and type

sudo mount /dev/sdb1 /home/ryzen/test

#

Your drive can't be ext4, Windows can't see ext4 and other partitions are ntfs

#

If you look at the Disks app, you can see that Partition 5 and 6 are both 365 gb, if you sum it up, you'll get 730 gb which is the size of partition 1. You can't mount partition 1 because there is nothing to mount, it's a "container" for partitions 5 and 6

#

guess so

#

I'll see what I can find

#

What is your reason for updating the kernel?

#

Also, do you need the data on partitions 5 and 6 ?

#

yes

#

Can you copy the important stuff elsewhere temporary?

rugged vale
#

if this doesnt fix anything, try the older version of the kernel you are using rn too, that fixed lots of issues for me, just depends ont he situation

celest trench
#

Then the easiest way would be to copy important stuff from partitions 5 and 6 elsewhere, then delete partitions 1 5 and 6, after that create 1 big partition.

rugged vale
#

really no proper answer to that, although for most hardware support for ubuntu is in the higher version kernels

#

linux mint is based on ubuntu just so you know

celest trench
#

As for kernels, LTS versions are 5.15 (default for Mint 21.2) and 6.1 (or 6.2 for mint)

rugged vale
#

you should try switching to di fferent versions of the kernel version itself like 6.2.whatever

#

You're welcome

Try Gparted (you can get it from software manager), it's a nice gui tool for it

#

You should be able to work with it while mounted too. Just make sure you have sdb selected in the program, so that you don't ruin ssd

#

Screenshots would be nice

#

See if you can also delete extended

#

Great, now just create a new partition

#

Yeah, those are fine. Then click on the green checkmark button to apply changes

#

If there are no error (there shouldn't be), that's it, mount it back up and use it

#

Sure, try that.

#

Cool, you should see 1 partition there as ext4, so you can mount and use that

#

Again, I can't see your monitor, so screenshots would help

#

Try copying a file or folder first, then see the permissions

#

Alright, yeah then take ownership

celest trench
#

@woven bear I'm guessing now you can use it?

You're welcome. Feel free to dm me if you need further help
