I just switched to linux mint xfce, these are the problems i am facing right now:

  1. can't choose primary monitor, i did click the apply button but no matter what i select it doesn't want to work.

  2. weird automatic brightness problem? After every 1 or 2 seconds of mouse inactivity the screen dims a little and when i move the mouse it becomes normal. I checked the settings and theres nothing is wrong i don't think it's related to the brightness setting. Also on my second monitor whenever i open some window the brightness changes

  3. what is wrong with the audio? The sound quality is a mess Its like stuttering not sure why.

  4. after messing with the monitor setting i clicked the mirrored option and applied it. Now primary monitor is black. And only the second monitor is working. But all the options and menu buttons are on the primary monitor which i can't access now

I didn't had any of these issues on my windows 10 so theres nothing wrong with my hardware.
Help me with the number 4 first so i can see the menus again

We will need a bit more info on your part.
Your hardware specs especially

#
  1. might be related to power settings, not screen settings.

#

run inxi -F instead

void basalt
#

Can you help me with no 4 first coz im stuck with the black screen

#

I can access the terminal from my second screen

Ren uses XFCE

grand steppe
void basalt
#

Yes i am using XFCE

grand steppe
#

If you have secure boot enabled, disable it along with tpm

void basalt
grand steppe
#

Idk about multi monitor setup tbh

#

Perhaps cocogoat or other guru may know

fossil owl
void basalt
#

This are the only things i can access right now

grand steppe
#

You sure you're running latest one?

void basalt
void basalt
grand steppe
#

Because of the wallpaper

fossil owl
#

Oh...

void basalt
#

Yes i choose that wallpaper randomly

fossil owl
#

noveao

grand steppe
#

NVM then

grand steppe

fossil owl

Can you open driver manager?

grand steppe
grand steppe
void basalt
fossil owl
void basalt
#

It says no such file or directory

fossil owl
#

show output of xrandr

void basalt
fossil owl
#

What happens if you disconnect a screen?

#

Turning it off should be enough to see what happens

void basalt
#

I am afraid to loose the terminal lol

#

Should i unplug it?

fossil owl
#

Are you on your cellphone on discord?

void basalt
fossil owl
#

Then just go ahead and unplug the monitor

past obsidian
#

You could set up ssh to your computer

void basalt
#

Oh yes all the menus are back

fossil owl
#

Good, can you open your driver manager?

fossil owl
void basalt
#

No drivers needed

fossil owl
#

Okay, open display settings

#

In there make sure to select your current screen and make it primary

#

If needed uncheck the box first and recheck it

#

then apply

void basalt
#

So i want my laptop primary on the right but when i move the laptop on the right all the menus comes to the second monitor.

fossil owl
#

I believe you can move the screen in that graphic, right?

#

This is what it's like in cinnamon

void basalt
fossil owl
#

If you rightclick on the main panel, do you have an option to move it?

fossil owl
#

The menus I believe you mean the start menu right?

void basalt
fossil owl
#

Kinda like this?

#

Hit move

#

And throw it on the other screen

void basalt
#

Nope it does not want to go on my laptop

fossil owl
#

Hmm as you can notice, I am basically trying to wing this since I do not use xfce

#

But can you go to your laptop monitor and add a panel there?

void basalt
#

Ok let me check the panel settings

fossil owl
#

Basically my intention is to duplicate the panel you already have

void basalt
#

Oh i got it

fossil owl
#

<@&838845866118873159> Tagging you lot for the follow up.

void basalt
#

I had to unlock the panel in the panel settings and then i just drag n drop onto my laptop

fossil owl
#

Oh..

#

Well that works too

#

So basically in summary?
No matter which monitor you have on or off, you have that main menu?

void basalt
#

Now how do i fix the sound?

void basalt
#

I hope it will remember that position forever

fossil owl
#

Well do yourself a favour and if you do not have pavu yet install it with
sudo apt install pavucontrol

#

That is an advanced audio monitor

void basalt
#

Ok do i need to specify any directory or just type that?

fossil owl
#

Since I can't help with the rest of your issues I do want to make sure you have most tools available for later

fossil owl
void basalt
#

Sorry i just started learning linux

apt

Package management utility for Debian based distributions.
Recommended replacement for apt-get when used interactively in Ubuntu versions 16.04 and later.
More information: https://manpages.debian.org/latest/apt/apt.8.html.

  • Update the list of available packages and versions (it's recommended to run this before other apt commands):

sudo apt update

  • Search for a given package:

apt search {{package}}

  • Show information for a package:

apt show {{package}}

  • Install a package, or update it to the latest available version:

sudo apt install {{package}}

  • Remove a package (using purge instead also removes its configuration files):

sudo apt remove {{package}}

  • Upgrade all installed packages to their newest available versions:

sudo apt upgrade

  • List all packages:

apt list

  • List installed packages:

apt list --installed

fossil owl
#

That is what apt is

fossil owl
#

Only sad that you face issues already, but hopefully the blokes here can fix it

#

In the mean time for the sounds, check for yourself if the speakers or whatever are plugged in properly, check if they are on the right monitor.
Try experimenting with it a bit, try rebooting if needed.
Sometimes by messing around your can fix it yourself

void basalt
#

Thank you im already learning from these issues

fossil owl
#

You already use pipewire from what I saw earlier, so the sound quality should be fine

#

So the issue is somewhere inbetween your speakers and the operating system

void basalt
#

Yes its fine now. But is there anything that will make it sound much better? I used to use fxsound on windows

fossil owl
#

easyeffects probably

#

Should be in the software manager/center

#

And unlike fxsound it's free

void basalt
#

Alright thanks for all the help really appreciate it

void basalt
fossil owl
#

Also small note

#

If you use audacious for your music player in Linux, you can use the equalizer in there for that specific application

#

For global use I recommend just good old easyeffects

void basalt
fossil owl
#

small screenshots of easy effects

#

And what you are looking for is an equalizer right?

#

And that you have in there too

void basalt
#

Ui is really nice which distro you are using?

fossil owl
#

Linux mint cinnamon, but I use a different theme

#

Anyway

#

It gets much worse/better

void basalt
#

Can i get that on xfce?

fossil owl
#

Probably, but I have no clue how well that works.

void basalt
#

Whats the name I'll try it

fossil owl
#

semabe

#

Anyway I wanted to explain a dangerous and bad but also cool thing of easyeffects

#

I use headphones and a dac.

#

And sometimes headphones are tested by people and get analyzed

#

That program has actual specific support for things like that

#

So if you have headphones you can try looking for graphicEQ settings

void basalt
#

Yupp i have a good headphone thats why i was looking for a good eq software

fossil owl
#

I have audio technica mh50x

#

Anyway, linux is a bit like a sandbox you have a lot of control over basically everything, but some stuff can be hard to grasp, so don't be afgraid to ask questions.

void basalt
#

I have jabra evolve 75 not sure why im telling this

fossil owl
#

To show off

#

As am I

fossil owl
void basalt
fossil owl
#

I do recommend a nice dac, with bass control preferably

#

Makes you a bit less dependant on software

#

Anyway @honest yoke can handle it from here maybe kekdoggo

grand steppe
void basalt
grand steppe
#

Then look for screen saver and/or power management
