hi there. I'm new to linux mint, and am having some trouble with my audio. no matter what i try, i cannot get audio from my rear headphone jack (which is the only one that currently works at all). I have tried pipewire, but that didn't do anything for me, although i might've installed it wrong. unsure.

any help is appreciated, thank you.

#

lmk what info you need.

#

pulse is definitely dead.

#

because im using.. pipewire

hard pewter
#

bruh

pure sentinel
#

as suggested in #1174216220103417956

#

this is after following the steps there, should've clarified

#

ratmilk@ratmilk-G228:~$ sudo service pulseaudio restart
[sudo] password for ratmilk:
Failed to restart pulseaudio.service: Unit pulseaudio.service not found.
ratmilk@ratmilk-G228:~$

#

that is literally it

#

im thinking about just deleting both pipewire and pulseaudio and then reinstalling

hard pewter
#

how about sudo systemctl unmask pulseaudio
and sudo systemctl enable pulseaudio

#

no

hard pewter
#

oh i see

pure sentinel
#

that was the issue, and this was how i tried to fix it

hard pewter
#

then reinstalling might just solve all of it

#

wait

#

do you mean the audio doesn't work even if you reinstall it

pure sentinel
#

when i installed mint

#

the audio did not work

hard pewter
#

I see, then reinstalling might not fix it

#

you might wanna look more info about your computer's sound card

#

the name and the brand too

pure sentinel
#

i can give ya the exact name here in a sec

hard pewter
#

also did you try updating your packages in linux mint

pure sentinel
#

i can try that.

hard pewter
#

it might provide driver updates for your sound card

pure sentinel
#

the card is "HDA Intel PCH"

#

chip is "Realtek ALCS1200A"

hard pewter
#

oh so it IS a realtek

pure sentinel
#

fyi this is a prebuilt pc that ive upgraded the shit out of over the last year, so there some stuff in there thats completely just beyond my non-tech savvy brain

#

if that means anything

hard pewter
#

i see ill look it up and see if i can find solution

#

might take a minute or two

pure sentinel
#

thank you, ive been struggling with this for about 2 hours now lol

hard pewter
#

in the meantime try reinstalling pulseaudio

#

sudo apt-get --reinstall install alsa-base pulseaudio

pure sentinel
#

okay, ive just done it thru the software manager. one sec.

hard pewter
#

if that doesn't work try editing the alsa base configuration file by doing this:
sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

then add this at the very end of the file's line:
options snd-hda-intel model=auto

pure sentinel
#

yeah, it doesnt even work when i hit sound settings from the taskbar anymore

hard pewter
#

i never had this problem before so this is new for me as well lol

pure sentinel
#

i wonder if installing alsamixer would help

#

i have alsamixer. genuinely considering reinstalling my whole linux mint since i haven't installed anything yet

#

besides like, discord.

hard pewter
#

it looks like you dont have cinnamon-settings package installed

pure sentinel
#

so how could i install that? just sudo apt-reinstall

hard pewter
#

if its not even installed then you can just do sudo apt install cinnamon-settings

#

or you could reinstall the whole cinnamon desktop environment with sudo apt reinstall mint-meta-cinnamon

pure sentinel
#

thats genuinely what im considering doing

#

says that isnt even installed

#

just using install did work tho.

hard pewter
#

try the solutions above first though if its still not working then someone else may help you because im genuinely out of options lol

pure sentinel
#

thats okay, thank you for helping. i might straight up just reinstall from scratch.

hard pewter
#

condolences if i coudn't help

pure sentinel
#

yeah im gonna see what i can do, see if i can reinstall linux mint
