#Linux mint boot issue
133 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
@wet crypt did you uninstall cinnamon?
I don’t think I did I mean did I????
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade && sudo apt clean && sudo apt autoclean && sudo apt autoremove then reboot
@wet crypt yes
Ok let me type it up rq
Ok so when I typed it up it gave me a bunch of failed messages lemie show you
@wet crypt now reboot
If you still got terminal black screen instead of graphic environment I would suggest to start from the beginning: launch mint from bootable device (pendrive or CD) in compatibility mode and install it from a scratch. Killer tofu advises are good in this case but I assume that you will spend less time retrying with installation than fixing this bug. For me looks like failed installation.
Yeah possibly I have my usb with mint inserted I just do my install again or how would I go about it?
Reboot, after BIOS initiation press whatever u have (depending on motherboard bios) to open boot menu: from there select bootable pendrive and select run linux mint in compatibility mode. Then install it as usual.
Ok got it lol thank you sm dude
If I will not fall asleep, write your output here. I'll wait.
Wait how do I run it in compatiblitu mode lol sorry to disturb you
U R not disturbing. Should be option to select when U run USB after selection from bios.
Ok let me see rq
Yeah you good dw dw you tell me when
After U boot from pendrive
Should be "start linux mint" and "start linux mint in compatibility mode"
Because you are booting from HDD/SSD with broken installation. Boot from Pendrive. What motherboard u got (MSI/Asus... etc.)?
OK when starting PC press F12 constantly - it should show you boot options.
U R now in BIOS not in boot selection but from here U can also select UEFI USB
select this and press ENTER - live pendrive should boot
then select "compatibility mode"
Ok let me see lol
My bad for going to the wrong location
It says error verification failed
Hah DEL is not F12 😉
Ohhhh o hold del 😭😭😭
so we got the reason... U got 2nd PC to download and preapare correct liveUSB with linux mint to use?
I should somewhere but not on me atm
Give another try, now use F12 and select USB.
Ok let me do that lol
Ok I just did that I am at the same location
Wait my usb is not connected all the way wtf 💀💀💀
T_T
don't say it ever to a woman XD
Nahhhh😭😭😭
Yeah but i still don’t see it
Ok I see thyou usb I think let me re run it
Fuck I can’t type
The usb*
No worries I am after 8 beers (polish ones) and not drunk :/ annoying genes.
Working?
It put me in the mok management
I don’t see anything doing with compatibility mode
It says enroll key from disk and enroll hash from disk
enroll
u got secure boot enabled in bios
maybe go back to bios once more and disable it
and try again
yup
progress 😄
w8, try to NOT select encryption when installing mint. It will be safer for you since U R not experienced.
Let me know once U finish installation process.
DO NOT. U will gain some performance. Also U will avoid typing password after bios boot and U will be able to autologin (and avoid entering password or not).
Ok lmao@let me not select that 😭😭
Valid cat ong bro😭😭
Yoooo it worked bro thank you sm😭😭😭
Anything else you suggest for me to do or nah?
@wet crypt laptop or desktop
Sure (sorry for delay) 1st of all: 1. install codecs 2. set up timeshift 3. do full update and upgrade 4. install drivers for nvidia or AMD depending what u got 5. reboot 6. have fun
Desktop lol
Told ya, I know what I am doing 🙂
Aye I got you thank you lol
@wet crypt set your mirrors
Open Software Sources, click on the buttons under Mirrors to set your main mirror to the closest one to you (Linux Mint) and base mirror (Ubuntu).
One last thing: add --> [SOLVED] at the beginning of this post name.
Basically go through mint welcome screen/starting tips.
@wet crypt mark the flair as solved and close it
you don't need to reinstall mint, just get the desktop back
Issue is already solved.
btw, if you remove your desktop and lose graphical login, there's no need to reinstall the whole system
just reinstall the desktop
your solution was overkill
#1170396250928054402
As I saw whole installation was broken so I decided to push it through reinstallation since as U saw - user didnt know what he is doing so I assume he wasnt previously 🙂
Oh sick lol
I gotta do all the extra probation I just switched to Linux yesterday 😭😭
But I heard I can like do whatever I want with it and I do some gaming here and there so is there a way I can optimize it for gaming??
you didn't broke your system at all, you only somehow removed the graphical session. you only needed to reinstall it.
welcome aboard
mint is good for games already. just get dxvk, steam, bottles and lutris running
lol will do bro thank you
i just install it all in the terminal right?
