I have a very old laptop with 4Gb Ram no dGPU with intel processor so I wanted to install linux mint. But for some reason when I boot into the live mode It just shows the linux mint logo & then the display blinks indefinitely but If I select the compatibilty mode in GRUB then I can boot in after a few moments. So, After installing it that way, Sometimes I don't see the GRUB menu & face the same issue but if I manage to select compatibilty mode then it works fine again.
Tried the latest linux mint both XFCE & Cinnamon.

you may like to use ventoy and LMDE
Won't Balena Etcher do?
and does boot mode have to do anything with it? should I select UEFI or Legecy & use secure boot on or off?
also works
prefer full UEFI with legacy and secure boot disabled
full UEFI?
yup
ok I will try & let you know
why do you think this problem occured though?
low spec hardware?
perhaps, but try with ventoy and lmde
also secure boot, tpm and you using legacy
didnt understood...
the way you had your BIOS configured may had been interfering with the install
yeah might be
I have 3 options for boot mode
- Legecy SB off 2. UEFI SB on 3. UEFI SB off
which should I select?
what SB stands for
and using ventoy with secure boot support & MBR ; SB = safe boot
safe boot off, uefi
Hey got an update. It still doesnt work
Bump
bump
if it's "very old" how old exactly?
MBR works best on old systems
in fact, might be the only way
Secondly, determine if u hav e 32 or 64 bit CPU, and obtain the appropriate ISO o flinux
(Debian still supports 32 bit systmes, not Mint)
Debian based too, such as Sparky Linux
must pay attention to what ISO version u get
and not that old it supports 64 bits & can run windows 10
b
u can modify Ventoy by running the installer program again (the graphic one is WAY easier) and selecting from Options, GPT mode instead of MBR, and update
then with BIOS settings matching accordingly, then it should install. I read up a bit what ranmaru said.
if u got working Windows on it right now, u can get the program, CPU-Z to learn and show more info of ur exact CPU, and specs for help here
in my help experience here, Secure Boot must be off for anything except very latest Ubuntu. and if ur BIOS normally boots the machine in UEFI mode, then the Ventoy stick should be made in GPT mode in ventoy installer options,
and ofc checksum verify the ISO file on the stick to be sure it's not corrupt.
could also just be the distro not playing nice with ur hardware.
ie - try something else
eg MX, Sparky, Linux Lite, Lubuntu, Spiral, Neon
u could try all 6 in live mode off the same ventoy usb stick (if it has the capacity)
