dream nail cuts the veil between the real world and the dreamworld. But we can also say that it cuts the veil between the real world and the spirituak world. The dreamworld is not one plane of existence, it seems to me like it is a manifestation of the spirit of a being, but it's very plausible to think that dreams are still connected in some sort of plane, albeit abstract plane maybe, and that it makes access easier for the radiance. And the spirit is a word closely linked to soul. The spiritual activity that constitutes the dream world turns into physical soul activity that animates the physical body. The knight is able to cut the veil, letting the spirit flow into the real world, somehow materializing the spirit as a real physical white substance, soul, due to magic I guess (magic like pale king, snail shaman). Btw i don't mean soul is not physical, i mean the spirit is non physical, and the soul is a physical manifestation of the spirit. The access with dream nail is stronger to the spirit, closer, it extracts spirit directly from the dreamworld, explaining why dream nailing gives more soul than nail hitting, which itself is letting soul leak out by the striking of the container, the physical body of the bug. Since the body of the bug is imbued in soul, animated by it in it's physical form.
But one evidence point remains to be analysed. Pale king gave the bugs the means to create their dream worlds, it must be the case, if not the radiance could have accessed whenever it wanted and infected everyone. It's said the pale king taught the bugs, under palest watch. Now question is was soul a thing before to animate bodies to live. What exactly did the pale king do, just vague magic? He taught them to focus, i think. Also void for example has no focus in itself, it must learn to do it, it has the potential to learn it, or copy it, but not in it's base form. Soul seems to give the vessels this focus, it's the only other constituant, or pale shell. Soul leads to dreams

It's a very cool dichotomy, for once it's simple. How soul works. The more you tend towards the realm of spirituality you get dreams, loss of control. The more you go into physical reality, you have guys like snail shaman, they resist the infection btw, and here he has the ability to make a spell, to put a spiritual thing and convert it into physical reality as a physical thing, manifestation. And here it's complete mastery, control. Of course it's not a complete dichotomy, but it's cool how elegant and simple the lore is for once through this philosophical lense
