#What's your favourite greek letter

Hmm. Tough to say. Gamma is the Lorentz factor, which is cool.
Mines phi, because of the relations it has to geometry and its perfect ratio (the golden ratio). Also because it is directly connected to Fibonacci.
FIBONACCI JUST REACTED TO ME?!
Meh, phi's overrated.
The Lorentz factor describes time dilation and length contraction in special relativity, and it's derived from the Pythagorean theorem.
Capital Xi is nice
It looks robust, girthy and square.
and it's made of three pieces
Hm...Hard to say. Probably ν and ξ, since they are widely used in chemical thermodynamics as reaction coefficients and extent of the reaction, respectively.
$\tau$ because who wants to use $2\pi$?
Kocher

Kocher
$\gamma$ because I like pasta
Rotor the motor
What's your favourite greek letter
idk
Who even labeled this as crank
I'd actually use this platform to complain that we should use π to be twice its current value, and τ to be half
Because τ has one leg and π has two
No clue
TYPA SAME BRAINCELL
My first thought would be wavelength, linear density or molar conductivity 😅
Many more uses of lambda
Tau occurs later in the Greek alphabet than pi.
Lambda complex.
def sigma bc i'm a sigma
This you?
me bc i didnt know what could i label this
Oh, that tag is specifically for crank posts. Yours isn't one!
Alright, nice! The staff members were thinking someone put it there accidentally or maliciously, so good to know it was just an accident 😄
We were on a witch hunt rofl
yeah
sorry
No worries!
Yeah @frosty atlas can we restrict adding that tag to staff members
unforunately not
i mean, we can do it in wacky ways
but not in a convenient way
The lambda, because of lambda calculus
I like either xi, or zeta, they look good, psi is definitely another preferred choice
Phi is also pretty good, its like the most used by me
Oh, what do you use it for?
After α and β
I just use them for angles
Ah, I see. Yeah, fair enough.
And for fun sometimes, i let some numbers be phi, for substitution
Electric potential, too.
I mean phi is pretty easy to draw
Or golden ratio.
Just draw a lil circle and just a line across, simplest one
I like the golden ratio a lot,
But ofc my fav will always be pi 🙂
Just ASR
d, y, z, u
my fav is Σ
In what context - sum, type of molecular orbital or something else? Or just aesthetically?
everything
Oh? What other contexts?
Sigma can be seen in measure theory a lot (to represent sigma algebras for example) and a lot in probability theory (the covariance matrice of a L^2 random vector is noted Sigma usually)
I used it in optics I think when I did some
But I may have misremembered
Oh, I see. I usually represented sigma-algebra by ℱ, I think.
I usually represent them $\mathcal{E}$ or $\mathcal{A}$ depending on my mood
Rotor the motor
Hm, ok.
fun thing that happened to me was that i was making a presentation about the gauss bell and i used the greek letter sigma to represent a variable. The whole class laughed when I said "sigma", nowadays people do not take serious math
Standard deviation, I assume, as usual?
No it's just because of the gen alpha memes
yeah, my clasmates are brainrotted
xi is literally the worst letter in both uppercase and lowercase this is an unacceptable take
anyway, omega?? obviously
maybe sigma cause i like drawing the lowercase, but actually now that i say that it definitely loses points for having two lowercase forms
one only appears at the end though
ξ
yeah which is stupid stop doing that
from a purely mathematical perspective i guess you never see it, but from a script design perspective it still sucks
man delta's pretty sexy too tho icl
uppercase gamma looks unstable so i cant rate it best, despite how fun it is to draw lowercase
psi just looks badass, it feels so powerful
not quite as much as omega but close
lowercase xi is difficult to write (took me 11 times to do it correctly)
Sorry, but that's a you issue
Delta ofcourse
Theta because it has been with me for so long
From basic trignometry to inverse kinematics, it has endured everything
$\epsilon$ and $\lambda$, the former because it reminds me of the the empty sets in formal languages and the later we use it in linear algebra for eigenvectors and eigen values
Galileo
can this bot say hi perchance
x1
$Hi.$
Techie Literate
$x1.$
chicken
$x+5=7$
chicken
$$\frac{a}{b}$$
108
Omega has the coolest name
yea what about alpha
omega sounds like a plastic jar of vitamin pills
Well, there are supplements with (ω - 3)-acid esters. Maybe that's what it reminds you of?
π, no explanation needed
I do want an explanation of why you didn't choose the letter that's in your nickname, I guess 😅
Oh. I thought this was a math server exclusively.
The way I draw people are circles with arms and legs. The letter O is a circle, and because I want to sound cool, Omicron looks like a circle as well. And for the same reason, (to sound cool) I used a K instead of a C.
I prefer Pi because this being a mathematical server and all, and Omicron probably doesn't have much to do with math.
Here's some examples of those people
Ohh, I see. Cool!
So yeah my favorite is Omicron, but this being a math server, I thought people would understand Pi without the necessity of going into detail. I guess an explanation was needed. 🤣
Well, I'm not a math student, so I just picked the ones I like and use relatively often.
How aren't you a math student
Not sure how I'm supposed to answer that 😅
It's a long story?
I was in chemistry during bachelor's, and now I'm in master's in chemical technology.
I like chemistry, so I'm a chemistry student.
Not really. I just like both chemistry and math, but chemistry more.
"There isn't always an explanation for everything."
-Ernest Hemingway (A Farewell to Arms)
Yeah, kinda like that.
Speaking of which I have an English project over that
Or it just isn't very deep. I just wento into a discipline I like, didn't think much 😄
whats this all about? greek letters? mine is obviously the summation symbol lol. coz im a sigma
Nah no way bro. seriously? people would kill to be smart like ya
Bro will make chemical war weapons during WW3 and earn millions
sigma
Capital Sigma / Pie because I use them to make large equations smaller lol
Idk if u cant do two simple lines u might have issues
Or you just have bad taste
Your nickname is TT, not Π, though.
Oh. Well, why not use the capital greek letter?
Isn't that the capital one, but stylised?
Oh, in a serif font. I see.
Small xi is just epsilon with personality change my mind
It's just a fancy epsilon and I love it
On the other hand though, justice for omicron
Well, omicron is pretty much the same thing as latin o and cyrillic о.
The whole point of using greek letters is to have more different symbols.
it's like how 14 y/os write an i with a heart instead of the tittle
My whole life I didn't know it had a name lol. Remind me to use that in as many situations as possible from now on.
