back to the problem
Yep
we can already add the given values
find the perimeter in terms of x
but we need to find those 2 missing sides, right?
let’s call the bottommost segment y
the one that is sticking out at the bottom
we know that 3x+y+2=5x+1
because all of the partitioned side lengths on the bottom side equal to 5x+1 (the side in the top)
now solve for y and tell me what you get
close
solve for y using the equation i gave
(there happens to be a faster way of doing this, but it's a bit less intuitive)
(teach basics first 👍)
(ok)
2x + 4?
(why are we talking in parentheses)
no
look here
gotta subtract 3x and 2 from both sides
Oh wait it’s 2x - 1
i will explain the other method afterwards
could you try that one?
Oh and the other missing side is 2x+4
Thank you
@indigo badger now explain the other method
Um maybe I should stick with the basic method
Oh.
pick up side lengths and place them in more convenient spots
create rectangle
perimeter
Can u explain better
like, shifting the sides so that they connect, as shown in the diagram.
Oh ok
Where did u get the 2 at the beginning from?
length=5x+1 width=4x+4
perimeter=2*(length+width)
base on this rectangle
