Hi there,

I am in grade 11 and my school has introduced integrated classes for competitive exams like JEE and NEET in India. I joined these classes two days ago primarily to gain knowledge in mathematics and physics, rather than for the exams themselves. However, I am facing a few challenges.

Although I can visualize problems easily, I tend to be slow and somewhat lazy in solving them, which is causing me to lag behind the rest of the class. Additionally, the teacher makes the topics, such as complex numbers, quite boring. Instead of sharing knowledge and making the subject interesting, the teacher focuses solely on completing the syllabus and preparing students for exams. This approach leaves me feeling very demotivated. Also the students out there have been manipulated by the teacher and they just do what the teacher says.

What can I do to effectively self-study mathematics and outperform the rest of the class? I don't want to study with that kind of teacher. Can someone provide advice on time management and recommend good books for self-study?

this is a problem everywhere you are not the only one

#

yup i faced that too during my JEE prep
self study is the best way to improve

#

as far as books are concerned

Math:
cengage,arihant

Physics:
DC Pandey(my personal favorite, best for JEE advanced),HC verma, i heard a lot about 'irdov' but never seen it

craggy wind
#

So any good book that you would like to suggest which has mainly great theory with some decent numericals?

fluid sphinx
#

Chemistry:
NCERT(is more than sufficient for Inorganic Chem)

#

umm i never refered anything other than NCERT for chem, i maintained notes for topics i struggled

#

PYQs were very helpful for all the subjects

craggy wind
#

Thanks but I am not a JEE aspirant, but definitely I will give a try to these books.

I just do maths so that in future I can do something in the field of mathematics and physics. Like maths honours or Bsc/msc physics and PhD.

fluid sphinx
#

and as far as preparation is concerned

Try asking help with your faculty members, If you are still not satisfied follow youtube , yes youtube helped me a lot

ISI(Indian Statistical Institute) is an excelent college for research in math it provides 'BMath' and 'BStat' degrees

#

for ISI do look into 'Tomato Book'

#

IOQM is a first stage Olympiad exam which will make you fall in love with Math

craggy wind
#

Btw can you please help me with the time table?

#

And sir, are you doing BTech?

fluid sphinx
#

JEE will fetch you premier institutes of India like IITs and NITs yes they have research opportunities too

fluid sphinx
craggy wind
#

So brother how was your JEE examination?

fluid sphinx

fluid sphinx

going into IIIT cse

craggy wind
#

That great, your hardwork was worth it

#

And good luck for your journey ahead

fluid sphinx
#

so.. you want time table for what?

craggy wind
#

Yeahh

fluid sphinx
fluid sphinx
craggy wind
fluid sphinx
#

so..
JEE,IAT have similar syllabus

craggy wind
#

IAT is actually as equal to JEE mains or sometimes harder and also it has biology rip

craggy wind
#

Let's say I wake up at 5 and do some workout and go to school like at 7:15 and come back by 2:30 eat lunch, take a bath so it becomes 3:00pm

#

So from 3:00 pm everything starts

fluid sphinx
craggy wind
fluid sphinx
#

paper1 of ISI is just jee main level math
but paper 2 is harder

fluid sphinx
#

so depending on target u need to plan ..

craggy wind
#

So I will have to adjust time accordingly for maths right?

fluid sphinx
#

if its JEE Main i can help lil bit
but a lot depends on your efforts

craggy wind
#

And brother how much sleep time is necessary?

craggy wind
fluid sphinx
craggy wind
#

7-8 hrs is fine?

fluid sphinx
#

have decent sleep time dont stress out too much

#

see... some things depends person to person
I faced a lot of ups and downs in the 2 year journey
when I was in 11th I badly wanted IIT
but I am still not sure how i degraded so much in 12th I got to know IIT is not for me and focused only on cracking JEE main

craggy wind
#

So yeah can you please share your time table? Lol we went off topic

fluid sphinx
#

I cannot exactly give a time table because
I just concentrated on JEE M

#

But yeah I will share my mistakes

#

so that you dont make them

craggy wind
#

After taking advices from many ppl as well as u, I would share u the proposed time table which will be easy to follow (if it is very strict anyone would give up on their first try)

fluid sphinx
#

Mistakes I made in JEE preparation

1)Not giving equal time to all subjects
2) Not maintaining running notes while listening online lectures
3)Not solving problems in a given time limit
4)I realized very late I had to refer NCERT for Chem(as soon as you complete a chem chapter plz read NCERT and take down important points like eg.: orders of p block elements, important preparation, properties reactions and exceptions)
5) And worst of them I had lot of backlog in class 11 Chem which costed me a lot in class 12,so understand the complete syllabus and try completing most of them.

#

well... I was a Math buff in 11th grade
I neglected math in class 12,i could solve math problems , if you give me lot of time i could potentially solve many questions, but time management is very important in math which I had to fix after first attempt

craggy wind
#

Thanks

craggy wind
#

I suffer the same problem

fluid sphinx
#

in first attempt is solved just 9 problems i didnt even notice how the time flew away

#

my performance in math was poor scoring 31/100
but i somehow managed 50/100 in second attempt(although its still not appreciable but sufficient for 99%ile) by practicing pyq by giving myself a time limit

craggy wind
#

Thanks for the advice bro

fluid sphinx
craggy wind
#

thanks

#

and same to you

fluid sphinx

for physical chem problems see 'Narendra Awasthi'

isi papers are barely as hard as ioqm

fluid sphinx
dusk berry
#

i know

#

it's barely as hard as ioqm

#

in terms of difficulty

fluid sphinx
#

ohh

dusk berry
#

you just need basic understanding of 10+2 math

fluid sphinx
#

difficulty is 'relative' term lol

dusk berry
#

exactly why I'm referring to ioqm

You haven't set your timezone! Set it using the interactive timezone picker with ,ti --set.

lime current
#

Why do I need to set my time zone?

#

I would like to set my clock to decimal time. Either UNIX or the Swatch Beat.

#

This would make sense for a math discord

#

Then we could easily perform calculations with any group of time stamps

craggy wind
#

@fluid sphinx should I buy cengage maths mains or advanced mathematics?

fluid sphinx
#

there are five books for each topic

#

DC Pandey,HC verma,NCERT are available online

unless you are atleast top 100 in your country you aren't even at the beginning

craggy wind
#

tbh I don't care about competition

dusk berry
#

bro gave up so early

craggy wind
#

is there any problem?

#

tell me what would you get after making it into top 100?

#

don't u think that's meaningless?

#

you will die one day and all your achievements will be turn to dust
so I believe in doing whatever makes us happy

#

if being in top 100 makes u happy then go for it

dusk berry
#

getting access to more knowledge

#

being around better people

#

having your way with things easily

#

if you think it's meaningless you are just succumbing to pressure and deluding yourself

I like learning theories so that I can discover the holes in them. This makes me feel smart.

craggy wind
lime current
#

That is not my thread

craggy wind
lime current
#

I pitched many conjectures

craggy wind
#

and I see it is still active sometimes

lime current
#

yes, i will bump it again sometime

#

because it's an interesting topic

#

i just bumped it recently

craggy wind
lime current
#

thanx. it's just imaginative writing for me

#

creative writing using math

#

there is something to be had isolation though

#

I find that I learn more when I am offline

#

hit the books

#

it's just fun to come here and gab

#

and see what it was that my mind subconsciously has linked together

craggy wind
lime current
#

so if I were to manage my time, I would get a balance between these two activities

#

lol

#

I'm just thinking about my own math activities now

lime current
#

all theories are inconsisten

#

if they were not then we could claim to have come upon THE TRUTH

#

no one can claim this

#

because any theory has problems
