In a right triangle ABC, AB is the hypotenuse and CD is perpendicular to AB. If CD = 6.72 cm and CB = 24 cm, find the length of segment AD. I got the answer 23.03 am I correct and is there any other ways on how to solve this question?

  1. Ask your question and show the work you've done so far. If you've posted a screenshot of a question, specify which part you need help with.
  2. Wait patiently for a helper to come along.
  3. Once someone helps you, say thank you and close the thread with:

  4. Feel free to nominate the person for helper of the week in #helper-nominations
  5. Do not ping the mods, unless someone is breaking the rules.
  6. If you're happy with the help you got here, and the server overall, you can contribute financially as well:

If CD is the altitude, then use the altitude rule:

Part of Hyp/alt = alt / other part hyp

BD is part of the hyp, and DA is the other part:

AD/6.72 = 6.72/BD
BD is the second leg opf triangle BCD with D as the right angle: BD = squareroot(24^2 - 6.72^2)

AD = 6.72^2 / squareroot(24^2 - 6.72^2) = 1.96
