  1. Ask your question and show the work you've done so far. If you've posted a screenshot of a question, specify which part you need help with.
  2. Wait patiently for a helper to come along.

Wdym? Im factoring

rich fractal
#

yeah cant factor like that as i know

#

its multiplication u cant change it like that

#

i mean u can factor that

#

But on the other line u added them

#

idk how to explain lol

dusty mesa

Im confused

Forget what im saying

dusty mesa
#

No its not that im confused

#

Wdym

#

When did i add

#

Im doing gcf

You wrote 2x^2 - 8x - 6 = (-2x^2 - 6x)(-2x - 6). That is wrong.

Factoring

#

The correct expression is 2x^2 - 8x - 6 = (-2x^2 - 6x) + (-2x - 6).

dusty mesa
#

But thats how i always write it

#

Confusedp

#

Il what your talking about but

#

Im doing gcf

#

Cryinggggp

#

So the x intercepts are wrong?

earnest quest
#

Well, they are wrong, yes.

#

You should've written it like this if you want to group terms.
2x^2 - 8x - 6 = (-2x^2 - 6x) + (-2x - 6) = x(-2x - 6) + (-2x - 6) = (-2x - 6)(x + 1) = -2(x + 3)(x + 1)

#

And the roots are obvious from here, as is the x-coordinate of the vertex.

dusty mesa
#

Huh

#

Thats doesnt make sense tho

#

Im doing gcf

#

Not grouping

#

Im so lost rn

#

Nvm ill figure it out myself

#

Thanks tho
