hi
uhh
shit its just a quartic equation
*cubic
u can use the cubic formula i think
@weary flint
no wait its not you have to use the depressed cubic
cuz first u bring the first down to power of 0
so u can solve that way
yea or u can take the natural logarithm of both sides base 2
doubt it, its likely factorable
,w solve 2u^3-3u^2+u=0
ya it is
sry my bad
darn
im rlly bad with cubics lmao usually i just use cubic formula
but ig u can factor it
ok now we gotta find the cosine values for that
right
so cos 0 is 90 degrees right?
@weary flint which textbook is this question from im actually kinda interested now
yea
these were the solutions
IB
idk my friend sent it for me to try
SE asia
cool
can u ping ur friend
I want to ask him for more qs
im practicing
for competititons
and that looks like a comp q
i don't think this question would be considered that at all
its pretty clear u use exponent laws and they share a common base of 2
I havent seen this one before
theres many...
ur friend must know a lot
oh
ok but whats cos 360
this is what i input
are you going to do the euclid contest tommorrow?
idk what that is
o its a math contest
na i dont really take part in contests
oh euclid, a lot of people i know did it today
one of the questions reminded of that
wait @weary flint dont u also have other questions
yea it was a very interesting contest
yh but i solved them
i tried it last year and did pretty poorly, but then again I basically didn't study
so I think we should check over your other answers
but ya its usually pretty rough especially by the end
what did you get?
like a 55 lol
honestly thats like okay
ig tbh
if u dont study much u cant ask for much of a high grade
so whats the easiest way of doing this
wait
break up the powers?
isnt 360 degrees a solution
the rest is trivial. Do you know how to solve trig equations?
im not good with math contests either
yeah trig eqns will be the easy part
u might want to graph it on desmos
i mean, you're basically at the step of the trig equation...
^ apex already highlighted how u set it up so that u can equate the powers
alrighr cool
do you understand how they got that?
ya you're good then
the cubic is easily factorable if you factor out a "cosx" term, so there's not much left
yea lmao
@weary flint wait I have a friend in thailand what city are you
im in singapore
dont wanna reveak that lmai
ok fair
why do u ask ๐
heard ib is really good program
o
do u know CEMC contests
by waterloo
i think lots of IB programs do them
idk for sure tho
ive heard it like once but its vague
is waterloo like a school or some contest organiser
yea its a university in canada
oh
and organizes contests
have u learned log rules
im not sure how to proceed after change of base however
so im hesitant to use it
are there any other rules u should use
?
maybe try to addition, subtraction rules
np
try and express everything in terms of log_9
$\log_9 x+\log_9 y+\log_{3^2}z^2=\log_9 81$ \
$xyz^2=81$
apply the same to the rest, and you'll get a system of equations that allows you to solve for each x,y,z
Anonymous
nvm typo ignore this
(xyz^2)/(81) = 0 -> xyz^2=81
Sorry I didn't read much of the preceding content, but what happened here?
as in like using log rules they all share the same base so (xyz^2)/81=0 (if u move everything over to and equate it to 0)
oh shit ๐ญ
sorry its just $x=\frac{81}{yz^2}$
Anonymous
In the reals, the additive identity is 0 and the multiplicative identity is 1
alr got it
you can easily see that 0 is one of the roots, then you hhave a quadratic which is easy to solve
just a heads up, log_a (b) = log_a^n (b^n)
was this what the question asked for?>
hey I can help you out with this
Are you still online
I've solved them both already with my students
@weary flint
It is a famous past contest problem
okpallmao69420?
yes
this is from an ancient contest
oh interesting
I believe it's origins are from a greek math olympiad
From the mid 19's
I teach many of the problems @weary flint has been sharing for many years to my many students
The contest is named: "Dilcue" it's a very famous contest in greece
I believe it was year 1969?
Have you seen these problems before @rocky garnet
i've never heard of the "Dilcue" contest but these questions do seem familiar
Where have you seen them?
i remember doing them recently
i think
uhh
like in a textbook somewhere i forgot
Are you the person who asked the question?
nope-
Oh?
but i still want to solve it
yep
Idk how this guy found it
From where?
This can be the missing source
Along with that greek contest
i think to solve the problem, u might have to use some choose notation
i heard its very popular in greek contests
i've cleared an exam called jee advanced so ive been exposed to thousands of weird questions
I think you should choose to leave this conversation @rocky garnet
my brain is rusted rn ๐ญ
damn
been years since brainstormed on these questions
โ ๏ธ jk
ily kevin xu pookie
you've been brainstorming these for years?
since ive brainstormed* ๐ญ
ive left touch with maths after clearing my exam
Are you familiar with math contests?
i've cleared the hardest one in my nation ๐
nah
Oh well.
have you heard of JEE advanced?
indian exam?
yep
idk that sounds like a position I'd do on my gf
nah ๐
oh
well these problems are pretty interesting @weary flint
I wonder where you found them?
one of the puny questions from there
Could they have been from the greek exam dilcue
Or perhaps
EUCLID
don don don
exposed
reported to CEMC
your gone
clipped and shipped
hey are you a teacher?
your email is being doxxed
your phone number associated from this discord account was extracted @weary flint
I have emailed CEMC with both these details and alerted them of the strategies you used for each question so they can distinguish your test
DM me privately if you want more details or if you want to clarify something to me that I can inform CEMC with
chill ๐
I teach at waterloo and found these ss quite incriminating given the 24 hour rule
I will have you killed (in terms of eliminated from the competition)
the guy doesnt even know what euclid is chill ๐
only people from canada would
everyone knows who euclid was
anynonymous
you are not slick
you are listen to the most gay song ever written
"Another Love" ?
really?

bro stfu and stop trolling ๐ญ
euclidian geometry? ๐ญ
no like the euclid math contest from UW (canada uni)
