no clue what to do really
try scale the right side of the fractional ratio to be 1, then multiply the left side of the fractional ratio by the same scale factor
so take the reciprocal of 2/3, and multiply the left side of the fractional ratio by that. and it should be your answer
so would I need to get it to be a integer since its x:1?
so you have ur ratio:
1/2:2/3 = x:1
the reciprocal of 2/3 is 3/2, so multiply 2/3 by 3/2 to equal 1
however, whatever you do to one side of your ratio, you must do to the other.
so you multiply 1/2 by 3/2:
(1x3=3)/(2x2=4)
so your new ratio would be:
3/4:1 = x:1
so x = 3/4
a reciprocal is just the fraction flipped
so 1/2 would have the reciprocal of 2/1
oh, why do you have to flip the other?
a reciprocal is the number that you need to multiply your original number by to get 1
so if you multiply 1/2 by 2/1 it equals 1
same for 2/3 multiplied by 3/2, to equal 1
but to keep the ratio true, you need to multiply both sides of it, which gives you the value 3/4
ah ok thank you
@kindred bison has given 1 rep to @low field
thanks - do you understand it all?
yeah, i understand where the fraction you have to flip it to get 1 but in this case you multiply it together and flip the other one as its in a ratio
if i were you - look up another ratio question and try a few so solidify the skills
best way to revise is to learn and then keep testing the new knowledge
yeah, the problem is when I did there wasnt any with fractions s
are you doing ur gcses?
no not now im in year 10 next year I will
do you know which exam board?
i’ll have a look for you
aqa
I got 1.71 not sure if its correct
i got something different, what did you do to reach that?
i did 3/1 : 7/8 then did 3/1 x 8/7 to get 24/7 then divded by 2 to get 1.71:1
almost, you’d multiply 3 by 2x(8/7) to get the answer
because it’s not x:1, it’s x:2
oh so just 3x8/7 and then times that by 2
I thought you had to put the 1 under the 3 to make it a fraction so its easier to times it
You don't need to multiply it by 2 oh wait, I've mistaken
you can do, however you prefer working
but yes that’s how it’s done
👏
wdym prefer workingV
however you prefer doing it
if you want to put the /1 to make it easier then 100% do it
what way did you do it differently?
i just left out the /1
anytime
