the wording is terrible, and this terminology is never used

So maybe like 24 equal groups of 5 and a leftover 3

its a simple statement
if you understand division problems
though the wording should be better
equal groups is asking to make the divisor into shapes
like our divisor is 5
so we need 5 circles or squares(groups)
we will now need to share or divide 123 into the 5 groups until we run out
if we have any left over, we can see that at the end we will have 3 left over
this is an example
we see we have 8 groups
now we need to divide 32 or place one into each group until there is none left but in this case we place 4 x’s into the groups and they are exactly equal so we get 32/8 is 4
