the area of the rectangle is x(x-7) (length times breadth)

but it is given to be 18

so x(x-7)=18

its not hard to show what youre asked to show from here

to find x just solve that quadratic

if beth is b and sam is 4 yrs younger sam must be b-4

b(b-4) that is the product of their ages is 621 so b(b-4)=621

not hard to show the given from there, to find sams age, first find b by solving the quadratic and then you can work out b-4 easily

area of rectangle is length times breadth

(2x+7)(x-3) = 37

just multiply these out and move everything to one side for the first part
