or rather assuming we had b-a then (a-b)^2 = (-1(b-a))^2 then distribute the exponent to get (-1)^2(b-a)^2
x-1=-1+x=-(1-x)=1-x
basically 1 - x and x - 1 are the same thing if both are positive like |5 - 7| = |7 - 5|
-2 and 2 are both the same except one is negative and one is positive
when squaring they both become positive hence they both are the same thing
