Can someone help me. When calculating MR = M1 + M2, why did they not consider M1 to be negative? (i.e. -2195.2 x 1m -882 x s)? I thought in a scenario like this, we consider the signs, and since W1 is acting downward, we consider it as negative direction. It appears they considered W2 and negative direction, or is that for another reason? Please clarify and help me.
