Well you have 2 numbers let’s call them x and y
One exceeds another by 12 so their difference is 12
Ie x-y=12
The sum of both is 38
So x+y=38
You have a system that is quite simple to solve then
I think the way to solve it was 2x+12=38
Then it gave you 13
Now you just gotta add 13 and 12
You get 25
There’s both of the answers but I’m not sure if I got them right
Well from the problem there seems to be 2 numbers
Where did the 2x come from ?
It says 1 number exceeds another
Hold on I took a pic of this
Never mind bestie I did not take a pic of that
I wrote it down tho cuz I used a “help me solve this” program
And it said that when it says “one number exceeds another” it means 2x
🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️
Tbh I’m not sure if I got that question wrong or not
Well I may have misunderstood the problem but for me when it says a number exceeds another by 12 that means that x=y+12
That’s an interesting way to put it
So the number x exceeds the number y by 12
Yeah it’s really confusing I agree
Is this even the same problem?
I think there is a part that’s missing
Because from what is written the 2x doesn’t make any sense
No they’re examples
Yeah I’m sorry that does sound confusing, I wish I could’ve took a picture to show you what I meant
Np
Well if I do it the way I see it like before you have x-y=12 and x+y=38
Thus 2x=50
Thus x=25
Now 25+y=38
So y=13
The final answers are then x=25 and y=13
It's implicitly taking y = x + 12. Then x + y = 38 becomes x + x + 12 = 2x + 12 = 38.
I didn’t think it through
