Suppose you have $\frac{-a}{b} or \frac{a}{-b}$ this is the same as -1*$\frac{a}{b}
But by definition remainder cannot be negative

Suppose you have -5/4
This equals -1.25
The largest whole number lower than this is -2
-2 = -8/4
-5 - (-8) = 3
Remainder is 3
yep they cannot be negative
but usually if they asked you for remainder both numerator and denominator are both positive

Are you suggeting, that there are two methods, one for only finding reminder and one for acutally division ?

Remainders by definition are not negative
It's the same method.
