what are those symbols? like the line above and the dot between x•y
Oh right
Thats indicating that it is a number
X and y is indicating different digits
So x and y are 1 digit numbers because its resembling digits in a number itself
so for example if x=1 and y=2 then xy=12?
Yes
and what's the dot between x•y mean?
That is multiplication
oh
the line above indicates that x and y are digits?
Yes
but 1979 isn't a square number so therefore xy cannot be a whole number
I don't think there're any x and y pairs cuz 1979 is not a square number
This is what my half drunk math teacher on Saturday morning class gave me
@undone shore
but 87² ≠ 1979
Please forgive, my math teacher was half drunk, half hungover, reeked badly of intense alcohol and cigarettes smell that i almost passed out when i stood next to him
lmao
Then i assume this question is unsolvable?
yes
Well, solving problems from a book that is from 2005 can be quite problematic then
