1/3x

#

Its perpendicular to the gradient of LineD

mhm

#

also you can find the x intercept of line P

#

then you can use point-slope and convert to slope-intercept

arctic fossil
#

X intercept is 7/3

If they are perpendicular this means the product of 3x and m equals -1

plush steppe
#

Its a rule in mathematics
If two lines are perpendicular to each other then the product of the number that gets multiplied by x and same for the other line aquals -1

#

Wait ill send a picture for u to under stand

#

@arctic fossil

arctic fossil
#

So what is the equation of line E. @plush steppe

plush steppe
#

We have (D): y=7-3x
And (E): y=mx +c
Since they are perpendicular
-3 x m = -1
So m= 1/3

#

For c you need the coordinates of a point that is in the line E

arctic fossil
#

I dont have a point and whenever I try and calculate P it gives me some cracked answer

plush steppe
#

@arctic fossil did they give you the coordinates of a point that is in line E

arctic fossil
#

No P is the x intercept

#

Of both lines

plush steppe
#

So they didnt give the coordinates of it

arctic fossil
#

No

plush steppe
#

Its kinda hard with no coordinates but i can notice that the coordinates of P(x;0) since p is in the x axis

#

I did a try

#

Aldo there is an intersection between line (E) and y axis
We can say the corrdinates of this point is K (0;y)

#

Then calculate m

#

m =y1 - y2/x1-x2

#

= y-0/0-x

#

= y/-x

#

We already knew m = 1/3

#

And m=y/-x

#

So y/-x=1/3

#

Y= 1 and -x=3 so x=-3

#

Y=1/3x+c

#

1=1/3 x (-3)+ c

#

C=2

#

So (E): y=1/3x+2

#

Thats what i think it could be wrong
