Hello. I am in year 9 right now. But feel like I’m getting worse and worse at maths. I think I missed out on one of the fundamental concepts, which really affects me. I want to know how I can relearn everything in maths up to 9. Our next topic is trigonometry, and I want to revise and relearn all concepts and topics beforehand. How does someone learn maths all over again? I have the basics down, such as multiplication and those types, but I’m not sure where I went wrong. Can someone provide a list of all the things I should do in order to year 9?

Mods, please don't close this thread, I have school soon, I will close it myself when I'm back
i want offline learning
my eyesight is really bad and i dont want to make it worse
have you tried using the books from your previous years and going through them?
thats what im doing
right now
The last year (and a bit of this year) I relearned all the math up to 9 grade, however I would say I was lucky because I found a video of a latam youtuber (I speak spanish) that literally explained the fundamental concepts of algebra in a special way and teach me how to think critically, after seeing more of this youtuber videos and applying the things he teach me in my class to learn better, I pretty much end with a good bases in algebra, set teory and arithmetic, but I sucked in geometry, so in vacations I decided to read a geometry book in the same way as he teach, that is understanding the why of the things and dont memorizing formulas or "rules". Now because im from latam the education isnt as good as other countries so probably the things you need to learn can be slightly diferent but my primary advice would be:
1.Find help: find someone or something that can teach you the logic without giving you formulas but telling you where that formulas come from. It can be a teacher, youtuber, web page or more, one page that I try was brilliant and i found it really good however i dont use it cause you have to pay for it but it have a free trial that you can use to see if you like it. (I know you said that you want offline learning but at least at the start i think it is pretty helpfull, I will explain why in the next point)
- Learn by yourself: Even tho this contradict a bit the first point, is really necesary that you just use the help as a "help" and sometimes learn the logic by yourself, for example using a book, books usually explain really well but sometimes it would give you some formulas that you want to understand and doesnt explain it to you, in this case I would recomend you to "rediscover" the formula by yourself using the logic you learned. Now, it is realy important that you learn when to search for help in this cases and when to do it by yourself, because sometimes you will end up burnout by trying to learn by yourself something that is just out of your scope.(I only use the help when I need it, meaning that the the most of the time im learning offline using a book or maybe just experimenting by curiosity, but at the start you will probably need a lot of help causing you to use a lot the internet and dont learn offline as you want)
- Balance and disclipline: It is really important to balance the things, obviusly if your only purpose to learn math is to get good grades you will probably dont need to learn the logic behind everything but the basic concepts, and also, if you dont have the discipline and the bit of motivation needed to learn you will probably have a bad time and struggle in the learning process. But if there is something I have learned is that almost every topic can get at least a bit interesting once you get into it, so the most important thing here is the discipline.
I am not sure if there is something I forgot to say but I know that once you start learning, with time it will just get easier.
Thank you
my holidays have just started and im doing the year 8 textbook at my school right now
how should I learn from the textboks?
any strats I should employ?
@pine briar
Sorry my phone ran out of battery 😅
Hmmm
Actually I would say it depends
Like with some textbooks you can for example go see something in the lage 176 but then go back to the page 47 to learn something that isnt clear for you
Personally, cause i wanted to learn geometry from scratch, I start reading the book by the first page (because I have nothing clear, for example I didnt know what was a segment, axiom and that things), however there was some occasional page that I skip a example would be when I found the actual topic not necesary to learn the next topics (however in the future i would obviusly come back to it), for example, the book also have trigonometry, and I wanted to reach there soon (even tho it took me 4-5 months) so got to the 3d figures part, but because I found it was not necessary for learning the other things, I skip that part to learn it latter and focus on the 2d figures.
Also there will be times you will need some knowledge that you dont have
For example you are studying trigonometry but then you get to a part with functions when you havent study it
In this case is would reccomend maybe see a short video about it and continue studying even tho there are things you dont understand well
But actually in this cases it is up to you what to do
Maybe you dont need to learn it fast so you can take your time to learn about it before continuing
Or maybe the book use a lot of definitions for other topic and you find it really hard
I personally dont recommend you to do all the exercises of a page
Because it somethings have like 20-30
What I do is doing like one-three from the first 10 to check if I understand the basic concept and one-three of the last 10 including the hardest one to chek if i REALLY understand the topic
But lets say for example you see you get most of the problems wrong
In that case you should see why you get it wrong I maybe do another one
(I have reach moments when i have done almost every problem cause it took my a while to get it)
And last tip if yoy found a problem that is REALLY hard and you REALLY struggle with it (or sometimes that is just REALLY boring xd) dont feel bad about skiping it if you already understand the others, what I usually do in tha case is skipping the problem and go to the next topic to prevent me for burning out
And obviously come back to try again in the future
Or search for help
Yeah sorry for the lot of text
Just remember that what I say is not the absolute true
it is just what i found helpfull, learning is a personal thing, no one learns the same as others, so you will probably find your strategies to learn better
yeah ok wil do that.
so for topics i'm not good at, i should do most of the things in the chapter?
hmmm
I mean as i say here that is up to you and depends in why you arent good
maybe you dont understand at all and need help instead of practice
what ive been doing was writing down keyideas in a seperate notebook, and then doing questions if im weak at it. or moving onto the next section if im confiident about it
If that works for you then its perfect
Tbh all math below calc is pretty trivial. Just learn everything should only take 1 hour-1 week
