surface area and volume are similar but volume is the space in which something occupies in its current dimension while surface area is the sum of all n-1 dimensions to create the structure in which your n dimensional thing occupies to determine this in 3 dimensions use your knowns to solve for your unknowns the formula for this is 2wl + 2wh + 2lh, now volume would be whl or basically the union of all w's, h's, and l's or w times h times l if you draw the formula for surface area you would get a double tri-ring with w, l, or h intersecting all elements not in wlh but the intersection points of w and l, w and h, and l and h. If you intersect the 3d shape to make a 2d structure you can actually see this embedded in the thing itself which just states that an n dimensional shape has n rotation vectors
