  1. Recall that similar means all the angles are congruent, all the angles are the same. Since the three angles of a triangle must add up to 180 degrees, then angles N + P + L = 180. In other words, 43 + x + 90 = 180

  2. Set up equivalent ratios. Fractions work just as well if you prefer.
    Short leg 1 : short leg 2 = long leg 1 : long leg 2
    9 : 6 = 12 : y
    Simplifying may help
    3 : 2 = 12 : y

  3. Use Pythagorean to solve the large hypotenuse.
