Graphs leave an impression. Creating a misleding graph leaves a misleading impression
The graph doesnt have to be fake to do this. Here's an example
So this is just a manipulated scale. The difference between each bar is 1, but the second one gives an impression the difference is huge
Now if I said this data represents some bit of information, such as the average number of fish in a lake over 3 years
The second graph makes it seem like the growth is huge (doubled, tripled)
And although the graph is labelled correctly and the scale is there, it doesnt matter
