Hiya everyone, I have a simple question that I'm confused about.
In the law of indices we've been told y² x y² = y^4 so you add the powers etc.

We haven't been taught however in which situation you divide the powers but I think I have an idea;
In this for example: a√(y^b) where you have quad root of y^b do you do specifically for the powers b/a? Is this a rule? And is this the only time to divide the powers?

Thank you very much.
